Bill McFarlin Family History

I was born in Wabasha, Minnesota (setting for the filming of "Grumpy Old Men") and grew up in and around Rochester at Lake Zumbro.  My parents owned a resort near the site of the former White Bridge.  The old bridge has long since been demolished, got hit by a car one night never was the same and had to be torn down.  My parents grew up in Plainview Minnesota and I'm trying to do family history research on my Dad's side, McFarlin.   So far I've realized that all you read about the family is not always factual and I've got a long way to go, but I'm learning.  The records indicate that my great-great grandfather Daniel  McFarlin was born in Pomfret, CT. April 1821, according to his obituary.  However, I have not been able to substantiate that and thus part of the reason for my website.  I need some help from any reader who may have some supporting documentation on Daniel. In 1994 I traveled to Hartford, CT. to find out more about the family name from the historical records in the state capital.  I also went on up to Pomfret to talk with anyone about the name.  I did not find all of the facts on my line of McFarlin.  Of course the name spelling was probably McFarland, in reality, at that time.  I believe there also were at least two lines of McFarlin's that came into the U.S.  Ours from the Northeast either through Boston or even Canada and another line that came into the middle states around Virginia or Carolinas. After Daniel married Abigail Foskit (Foskett or Foskitt) in 1848 they headed west to Goshen, Indiana.  My great grandfather, Marshall, was born in Goshen in 1863 and there were other siblings born there as well. The family then moved to Minnesota and settled around Plainview.  My grandfather, Budd, was born there as well as my Dad - John Marshall McFarlin. My name is Bill McFarlin and currently I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  How I got here is a another story, saved for another webpage, another time.  For now I'm trying to learn more about my heritage.  Along that endeavor I would appreciate hearing from anyone that may have more information on Daniel or the family name.
