USING YOUR STASH FOR FALL SEWING
It's time to start on your fall wardrobe. Think of all the great colors for this
year. Bright red, green, blue and deep brown. These colors have always
made me think of fall even during a heat wave. I've already started
checking my favorite fabric stores for fabrics to begin sewing for myself,
my family and of course my customers for this fall. But going through my
stash I found several lengths of fabric needle ready. A beautiful blue velvet,
there's only a yard of it but think of the great hat and scarf I can whip up.
Then there is that wonderful 31/2 yard length of corduroy in bright red. I
see that as a skirt and vest. People who sew buy fabric on the off chance it
may be used one day when we find the perfect pattern for it. This fall it
should be easy to find just the pattern for that piece of fabric you've been
saving. Check your stash and see what you can come up with. Still have
some of that polar fleece you picked up last year? Try making a light
weight fall jacket, it will be easy since you don't have to worry about
finishing the edges or hiding the zipper. If you check your pattern stash you
just may find a pattern you can use for it (I did). Dig around in the zipper
stash: what's that? Oh my the perfect zipper too! Think of how many yards
of wool you've bought but never made up or the flannel which is very big
this year. If you only have a small amount of a fabric think of it in terms of
children's clothing or hats and scarves for your Christmas list. Yes I'm
thinking Christmas in August! You'll probably find many goodies in your
stashes, so look in "THE ROOM" or "THE CORNER"and see what you
have before you go to the fabric store. Isn't that some wool Challis over
there? Check the zipper and pattern stashes and make notes if you need to
so you don't buy the same things twice unless it's something you really
want to have two of. Using your stash can save you money. Of course we
know what you'll spend the extra money on MORE FABRIC!
