This vest is one which I made using illusionary bars, a Joyce Drexler technique which we learned at convention, and the Fish Designs from Bobbi Bullard. These designs are so well done and unique, I couldn't wait to use them. The vest is a soft blue denim with a busy print for the illusionary bars. I used bronze Sulky Sliver and stitch A-20 set to its longest length to stitch over the bars once they were fused down. I used sliver and metallic threads for all the fish.
This close-up of one of the designs is using gold sliver. Tip: Thread Sulky poly invisible thread as one with the sliver, and it strengthens it so it won't break while embroidering. Thank you, Jim Suzio, Viking Educator, for this tip. | The little row of blue fish is done using metallic thread. Tip: Slip a piece of wax paper under your embroidery to prevent thread breakage. Thank you, Lindee Goodall of Cactus Punch Designs for this tip. |
This is a close-up of the designs I used on the lower right front vest. I did these in different colors of metallics, which don't show up.
On the back, I did the yoke in the illusionary bars and more fish.
This vest is for my daughter, so in the interest of time, I made it reversible. The other side is shown below. |
|
This side of the vest is a blue and wheat colored linen-look cotton. I used the same denim as the fish vest for the front and back yokes. I embroidered plus hoop designs from Viking Embroidery Card 25 on these yokes. Two totally different looks on each side of this reversible vest. |
