My Old Sewing Room
This is my sewing room in our previous house which we had remodeled. I'm leaving it here for any ideas it might give you. It was an enclosed patio. This is looking at the north end. To the right, we removed sliding glass doors for a large opening into the computer room, which you will see below. The other door opens into the garage.
This is looking at the south end of the room and into the den. Notice the ironing board against the wall on the right. I finally have one I can put away. The counter is 12.5 feet long and gives me plenty of room for 2 machines and a serger. There is a knee space with a lap drawer under each machine and six nice drawers in between. On the end below the ironing board, I have open shelves for rolls of stabilizer, button boxes, etc.
This is a picture of the ironing board down on the counter. It is very handy with the storage underneath for water, spray mister, press cloths, hams, etc. I used a pattern from a regular ironing board and had it cut shorter. Therefore, a purchased cover fits after I cut it off. You will probably notice that I will be standing on the wrong side of the board, but so far, it hasn't been a problem.
This is a corner for my cutting table with shelves above it and, of course, I have thread everywhere. This is directly across from the ironing board. The corner is created by a closet with shelves perfect for books, notebooks and patterns. I have my fabric right inside the den in a nice big closet, plus a bit of space I have leased in the garage.
My clever husband built this shelf in the corner on the north end above the counter for the TV/VCR. It is out of the way and visible from anywhere in the room.
This picture is just to show you my wooden spools that I have used for drawer pulls. I remember people in the "olden days" used spools on screen doors, etc., out of necessity. I did it for fun! I love the 3 windows (2 of which you can see here) which give me lots of light.
This is just an idea I thought I would share. I had bought this VCR storage rack which hangs on the back of a door. We took the hangers off and screwed it on this door which goes outside and is used very little, and it is perfect for thread storage.
Through the double doors I mentioned above, is the computer room and a nice place for Aunt Bessie's treadle and my Mother-in-Law's Singer. Both still work and give me much pleasure just to have them. |
