The Last Good-bye

To The 2001 Royal High School Chamber Singers

I actually wanted to try to write an article in a format that would be a bit different as opposed to the typical acknowledgement speech. To the kids who were able to read this column last year, I think I gave you enough about the way people should appreciate the moments they have with each other. But this year was filled with drama and hardships; we all know that… so I won't even begin to go through any of it. Instead, I think it fit to share how much Chamber Singers and my four years in this program affected me. I cherish all of you. Thank you for the greatest part of my years at Royal. I hope my memories of you are valued as much as yours of me.

So! Without anymore delay…
I hope you enjoy this attempt to undercover secrets behind the music in an in-depth interview with… myself!

How are you doing today?
Good, you?
Pretty good... Is that a new Banana Republic shirt? I'm sorry... I can't help but notice that you're dressed extremely sharp today.
Oh why, thank you. Here's a hundred bucks.
Wow, thanks! Might I add that you're extremely handsome!
Wanna make out?
Uh, maybe later. For now, I got a few questions for you. You've made a lot of new friends, who would you say are the ones you've developed the biggest relationships with?
Dang! Why'd you have to ask that question as if you knew I didn't want to answer it? You know, there are so many people: Steve, Kiani, Katie-Eightie, Emily, Kent, Kelly…
Are you sure you're not forgetting anyone?
Oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot Keylay... And Nick... Dang! And Chris...
You sure?
SHISH! And Jena!
Haha! I knew it! You were just looking for an excuse to put Shish and Jena together in the same phrase, eh? (By the way, which was better saying?)
(Jena, of course.)
Awe, I'm sure she'll appreciate that, bless your heart. Any other words you would like to put together with Jena, hmmmmm?
.......... Huh?
..........?
..........?
Anyway... uh... watch out for that tumbleweed... Wha-What are you doing?! Where did you get that gun?
Oh. I thought we were done. It got silent so I thought I was gonna to have to blow this mutha- up!
Really?
I don't know..... Ya feelin' lucky?!
..........
“Ha! Cyke ya mind!”
'Whew' So, who have you enjoyed singing with the most?
That would definitely have to be Kent Perttula. I mean, *NCHYNC was cool while it lasted, but Kent was one of those guys where it was like... "@#$%^&*! I thought I had that note, did you?" It was great to find that one person you just absolutely loved to sing with. I feel I don't sing my best without him. You're lucky if you ever find someone like that. Have you heard that guy's accent? It cracks me up!
Yes, I have. It's not that funny. Which brings me to my next question, who has been the most exciting person to watch?
Man, that's a tough one. Katie-Eightie would have to be one of the top on that list. It's just obvious- she's hilarious and confident, that's what makes her a hotty. Next would be Heather Ostrowski. She always makes me feel like she's setting me up for some big punch line. She's tricky like that, she's a trickster!
What things about Chambers are you going to miss the most?
All the small things... seeing Chris's hair in the morning, the way Darcy presents herself during concerts, Heidi and Eric off in the corner of the room, Katie being the wild one, Kelly overseeing the music, Ken and Kent getting confused whenever Mrs. Graeve calls on one of them, Kira taking role, Kyle’s dancing, Peter's greeting with a handshake… All the pretty girls…
Haha! I know what you mean… So, who are you going to miss the most?
I’m going to miss everyone a lot, but I have to say I’d miss Peter the most. Now, I know what you’re thinking… Why would you ever miss a Korean with a temper who never forgot that you gave him a swift iron-toe roundhouse kick to the nose? Scary, I know. The answer is quite simple, really… we’re Asian. We’ve got that kind of patience with our friends. It’s different, you know? It’s hard to see someone you’ve known since kindergarden go on to bigger and better things when you’re left right here in the cracks. The worst thing about it is that there was so much time we lost in between those years; we had not become best of friends until last year.
What about the people you haven’t mentioned anything about?
(_(_) Kiss it… you’ll have you turn at me in the write-ups.
Anytime you felt like putting a submission hold on anyone in Chambers?
..... Pass.
No, you got that all wrong. What I meant was anyone you felt like beating the crap out of?
..... Pass.
C'mon!
If I told you, I'd have to kill you.
Who would you want to see beat the crap out of each other?
Kuhle vs. Paul and Ken in a handicap no-holds barred steelcage match… Either that or Kuhle vs. Michaelson in a last-man-standing steelcage match.
What would you award the winner(s) with?
A shot at me, daddy!
What was your biggest achievement?
Being able to meet all these one-in-a-million people… Oh yeah, and that National School Choral Award thingy.
What regrets do you have about this year?
Not knowing and being able to be friends with these people sooner.
Do you have any other regrets?
The only other regret I have is not being used to my full abilities.
What was your worst disappointment?
Haha! You wouldn't happen to let that by without letting everyone hear about it would you? Well, it's no big deal really. I mean, after three years without a single solo in any concert, you couldn't have expected one in your fourth.
You're dying, aren't you?
Yes.
It's okay, there's always your choir in college, right?
Damn.
Damn.
You said it.
