'Lady News Reporter' |

A Popular Japanese TV Programme - 'Lady News Reporter'Recently I've seen a newspaper article on Ming Po Daily / Hong Kong (22 March 98). It's about a popular Japanese TV programme. The translation in English is 'Lady News Reporter'. The principal actor is a Japanese young lady and in the programme she is usually in an executive look. Ming Po Daily had scanned her photo. (Sadly I do not have a scanner.) She is in medium length hair, light make-up and red lips, wearing earrings, AND she is wearing a tie and a 'masculine'-look suit! Photo added on 24 Apr 98 I have shown this to my wife and we have a discussion. Definitely although the lady is wearing "men's" suit and tie, no one will be in doubt that she is a pretty lady. Moreover, her image is widely accepted. Another piece of news is that a famous Japanese female star recently shows up in a TV ad on "men's" underwear. The Company wants to promote its product and invite a FEMALE to wear a "men's" underwear so as to attract men! The most important is that everyone appraises that the lady is extremely sexy while she is wearing "men's" underwear! Is it true that Japanese is more open? Or is it that women have privilege? When can the society accept men doing the same?? If anybody knows more about these, please mail me so that I can add to this news. (Above news was written in March 98. The following paragraphs were added on 24 Apr 98.) On 17 April 1998, a newspaper in Hong Kong (page C2, Hong Kong Economic Times) quoted the comment of Ms Vivienne Tam, a famous fashion designer, on how she described 'Sexy'. "Put on a piece of your husband or boyfriend's clothing, like a round collar white under-T-shirt. You can't imagine how sexy you will be!" -- Vivienne Tam Women in men's clothing are called sexy (many people agree that!). Men in women's clothing are abnormal?? |
