Deck Building

Most Beginners stuff all there good cards together and think it will be good. Then they play  with it and get wopped and complain that they should have won. Then they ask you why it didn't work. And you answer that you can't shove all your good cards in a Deck and expect it to work. If this happens to you or your friends than you should be sure to read this.

The Main thing in deck building is figuring out what kind of deck you want. There are three main type of decks: Beatdown, Control, Combo. Each deck has it's own personality and needs certain kinds of cards.

1.      If you are building a Beatdown Deck it needs several creatures and/or boost-up spells. Some examples are: Rancor, Gaea's Embrace, and Might of the Oaks. The thing with this kind of deck is that you should constantly bombard your opponent with creatures. An example of this kind of Deck is the pre-constructed deck "Crusher" from Urza's Legacy. It uses creatures with Trample to get damage through even if they are blocked. They usually start off slow but end with several big creatures. Another type is a Quick Beatdown, it uses things to get mana out fast. An example is Dark Ritual or Elves. It is like the Black Speed\Control deck in the Decks Section. It uses creatures with low defence, but high attack. They also don't cost much to play so you can attack for 5 or more damage on the second turn. By using Dark Ritual and then laying a creature with a low cost an  enchantment on it to boost up its power. You want to attack every turn unless you can't take down your opponents best creature with this type of deck.

2.      The next kind of deck is a control deck it uses cards to slow your opponent down and keep them from damaging you. You want him to do what you want him to do. A Control deck uses counter spells to keep card you don't want out from hitting the board. Then they set up an army and slowly weaken you down and then charge for the kill. These deck are very annoying and can taken many turns to win. (40+ turns). It dosen't mean that it will take that long. There are speed control decks also. Like the one in the Decks Section
(The Black one in the section.) It uses things to keep your opponents creature and enchantments off the board. Like Fatal Blow, Duress, and Expunge. This deck uses small creatures so they can still afford to cast other spells.
