Basics on Playing Magic

By: Commando4

The basic object is to knock your opponent down from 20 life to 0. You use creatures, spells, and artifacts to help you in this task. You take turns attacking and drawing to do this. Your turn consists of many parts. Some oarts let you attack some are where you draw.

To Start off you build a deck of  40 cards or more. Then you set up by drawing 7 cards. (This is your hand.) then you flip a coin to see goes first. If you win you can pick weather to go first and not draw on your First Turn or to go second and Draw an extra card

PAYING FOR SPELLS

Then you lay can lay only ONE land each turn. After you get enough land you can play spells that cost mana. You tap your land to get mana. This means you turn the card 90 degrees. It also means that it has been used you can't untap it untill your next turn. So on the First Turn you lay a Forest and then you can tap the forest to get a green Mana represented by a Tree. With this Mana you can use it to play anything that costs 1 Green Mana or 1 Colorless(It is represented by a number in a Circle.) Say you have  Pouncing Jaguar it costs 1 Green Mana(the cost is in the top right corner of the card.)I could tap the Forest to get the Mana and then use it to pay for The Jaguar.
