This is a website for thoughtful, responsible individuals interested in raising happy, healthy, and well-adjusted puppies.  There are many things you should know before adopting a puppy.  So read on for more tips or click above for links to more informative and fun websites.
Before buying a dog from a breeder, it's a good idea to research the breeder on-line.  Many breeders have their own web pages.  If your breeder isn't on-line, visit the home and observe the area where the puppies have been raised.  Is the area clean and do the pups have access to their mother?  Are they in a restricted area so they can move around freely, or confined in cages all day?  The way the puppies spend the first few weeks of their lives could determine their personalities and temperament.
If you are considering adopting a puppy from an animal shelter, great--you are saving a life!  Before adopting, try to find out why the dog is there.  If it's just a problem that training could solve, make sure you are willing to spend this time to insure that he doesn't end up at the animal shelter again.

Bringing Your Puppy Home

Before you bring your puppy home, you need a crate with a bed inside, food, food and water dishes, a leash and toys.  It may be comforting for him to have a ticking clock nearby to remind him of his mother's heartbeat.  Housebreaking should be started right away.  Don't paper train your puppy because this just teaches the puppy to go inside the house.  For excellent housebreaking and training tips, visit the WOOF! website via my links page.
Good luck and have fun raising your puppy!
