Bride related adult groups at Yahoo

I have discovered about 30+ bride related groups in Yahoo's groups. The majority are either full of spam or are dead and abandoned. None are really worth anyone's time since they don't provide anything that can't be gotten from the usenet. I've stopped listing all the groups since I discovered that shitbag spammers where following my links and filling the groups with their crap. The few groups which where moderated and actually worth a look have dissappeared.

My take on Yahoo's adult groups

The original 'Egroups' was nothing more than a cheap shot at capitalizing on the fact that most people have no idea that the usenet exists. It offered far less bandwidth and speed and made you put up with advertising. Being bought by Yahoo has made the situation worse. Because of complaints by the 'moral majority', Yahoo removed the adult groups from the search utility. Finding adult related groups can only be done by links from (usually) other Yahoo groups. Many slimeball porn/spam sites use 'Yahoo adult group index' as a lure to generate traffic. The 'indexs' invariably just lead to their own spam filled groups.

As much as I dislike the groups, I always join the bride ones. I feel obligated to let people who share my fetish know about my postings in ABPEU. I've made a few good friends in the groups and shown numerous people 'the light'. These people invariably abandon the Yahoo groups as they immerse themselves in the richness of the usenet. Many others want everything to be handed to them on a platter and get mad and abusive when they can't have it their way. The typical group is created by someone with good intentions who makes a plaintive cry to 'please post pictures'. After several months of no activity they abandon the group in disgust and disappointment. If the group was moderated then it sits empty wasting server space. If it wasn't, then it quickly gets taken over by the dirtball spammers. Occassioanally a group will appear which is well run and has a good gang of gregarious members. For some reason they all die after a few months.

Yahoo's groups have the following problems:

  1. S-l-o-w. Even just reading the messages is slow as nails. I have found that there is little difference accessing the groups on either dial-up or a high speed connection. Yahoo probably throttles it's servers back to keep usage down.
  2. Limited space. Each group has a maximum of 32MB of space.
  3. Groups occasionally disappear. Either Yahoo deletes them on purpose or it's servers are lame.
  4. Images posted to the groups are reduced in size. Only way to avoid this is to attach pictures to e-mails or put them in the files directory.
  5. Unlike a good news reader, spam is impossible to filter out of a group if it's not moderated.
  6. Severely limited readership since they don't show up on a search.
  7. Must be a member of Yahoo groups and have a 'profile' to access. Sure!... here's my real name and address...spam me!
  8. Overwhelming populated by AOLers and kids.
  9. No guarantee of longevity. The way internet companies go under these days (and the recent financial troubles of AOL/Time Warner), it's questionable whether Yahoo will exist in three months.
  10. Did I mention that Yahoo's groups are s-l-o-w? I haul stuff out of the usenet at a little over 1MB/s. It frequently takes a full minute just to load a new message at Yahoo's groups; and THAT's using Opera's browser (the worlds fastest browser).
  11. Subject to the vagaries of Yahoo's whims/censors.
  12. When trying to download large files, the group will frequently hit it's download limit and no one can do anything for some time.

Why the 'real' usenet is the only way to go:

  1. FAST!
  2. Unlimited space (kinda).
  3. Groups are permanent (this isn't always a good thing).
  4. The usenet is permanent (at least as much as the internet is).
  5. NO censorship; anarchy reigns (this isn't always a good thing).
  6. Anybody...absolutely anybody can access the usenet (this isn't always a good thing).
  7. Easy to filter out spam.
  8. Inhabited by a much higher percentage of 'grownups'.

The only drawback to the usenet is that binary posts (ie: pictures and stuff) have a limited life on most usenet (NNTP) servers. Only so much space is given and as new stuff is posted, older stuff is dropped. The bigger, more active groups have a posting life under 24 hours on the typical ISP's servers. You either get it the day it's posted or lose out. The answer is to subscribe to a commercial newsserver like Giganews. You'll need to anyway if your going to download multi-part binary posts.
