This low budget cult film was released in 1969 and became the top grossing film of that year. Peter Fonda, Denis Hopper and Terry Southern wrote the screenplay. Hopper directed the film.

Fonda played Wyatt, the vague, unshaven pothead who referred to himself as ‘Captain America’. His co-star, Dennis Hopper played Billy. This was Jack Nicholson’s first major role.

Hopper and Fonda are motorcyclists on a journey to find the real America. With the money from dope selling, the pair hit the road, the American Symbol of adventure and freedom. On the way they meet a mild-mannered lawyer, played by Jack Nicholson, who finds their lifestyle irresistible.

Hopper and Fonda were both know to be living the hippie lifestyle in real life. The publics curiosity with that way of life and the film's romanticism may be why Easy Rider was so popular.

The soundtrack features great late 60s rock songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Band, and The Byrds.
