Television Idol Cathy McGowan was the compeer of the television show Ready, Steady, Go! The pop show was first shown in 1963 and presented the latest in fashion and music for young people. Cathy quickly became a cult heroine, receiving thousands of fan mail letters a week.

Cathy was young, slim and had a 'barbed wire' fringe dangling over her eyes and wore clothes that her fans were envious of. She designed many of the outfits herself and created the Cathy McGowan fashion label which sold copies of her outfits for eight to fifteen year olds. The outfits were controversial and radical but the designs were brilliant.
