Me in my Barbie Land/ Computer Room
Hi! My name is Cory and I have been collecting vintage Barbie
and Friends for over 15 years. I started at the age of 11 when I bought my first vintage Barbie at the local flea
market. It was Live Action Barbie. I couldn't belive the quatity of the doll. She was so different from the Superstar
Barbies I had. She didn't have the cheezy smile and she had real eyelashes(and she danced)!
I was hooked! I was very fortunate to get most of my collection within the next 5 years, going to garage sales
and shows to find things to sell so I could buy more for my collection. By the time I hit 16 it was too uncool
to spend all my money on Barbies- and someone I know might have seen me going to garage sales- so I quit searching
for almost 7 years. My parents moved to another state and took my collection with them, so nothing would get destroyed
or lost while I went to college(and moved about 6 times). Thank goodness my Mom still bought me Barbies and accessories
when she would find them! She bought me some of my best stuff!
A couple of years ago I was finally able to get my cabinet and display my dolls which I hadn't seen for years(that
was a happy day!). Now I am fully into Barbie again and know I will be for the rest of my life! !
Michael and I were Married August 15, 1998
Michael collects Starting Lineups so he is very understanding of my Barbie obsession. We both love the Simpsons and pick up items when we find them. We also like beer collectibles- trays, mirrors, etc. I have collections of 60's troll dolls, Kiddles, Ren and Stimpy, the Tick and various other things I like!
I used the Barbie & Ken wedding day
ornament for the cake topper: )
You might notice I don't have many pictures of Skippers in my collection. Well.....
(here goes my sad story), 2 years ago I gave them away! It wasn't on purpose. I had just moved and had boxes of
stuff I was going to take to the Salvation Army. I completely forgot that I had thrown my case full of skipper
clothes and dolls into a sack of clothing. It got donated. I realized what I had done about 5 days later. I went
to the donation center and a couple of people remembered seeing it, but it never made it to the sales floor anywhere.
I think that was the worst part of the whole ordeal. Knowing that whenever somthing good gets donated to these
"charitable" organizations the items are not sold and the proceeds given to those who need it, they are
taken by employees!!!!!!!!!
You know they didn't even pay for it because someone would have remembed the transaction. No, I'm not bitter!!!!!!
Anyway the only thing that makes me feel any better is just being thankfull I didn't do that with my case full
of Francie clothes!
Luckily I had a few of my favorite outfits stored on dolls that were in a box with the dolls from my cabinet
I am also very thankfull I never sold my collection when I was short on cash. I just
have to say to anyone that is thinking about it, make SURE you REALLY want to before you do it! I have known people
who sold their collection to help pay for a house or whatever and they regret it! With the price of Barbies now
it would be really hard to start a new vintage collection.
I also collect Kiddles(I only buy them when I find them cheap!). About 10 years ago I sold my collection- why I'm
not quite sure, and had to start over. I have a nice little collection, but I do regret selling the ones I did.
Now I don't sell any Barbie stuff unless it is a duplicate!
