A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME....
by Brad (Agent69)

I was once falsely led by the preaching of an ignorant man.
He told me that a rose is a feminine thing,
something that a real "man", could never appreciate.
I believed him and took his teachings as my own prejudice.
Now I sit holding this delicate piece of finery and am lost by it's blazing hues and colors.
It brings to mind pictures of love I've yet to find,
Dreams of romance and visions of intimacy.
How is it that this flower can create such powerful imagery?
And even more, how is it that it captivates me so?

"A rose by any other name, would smell as sweet,"
a wise man once wrote and he couldn't have been more right.
Ever since Mother Nature first crafted it's beauty with her caressing hands.
it has been the mortal symbol of love and friendship.
There is something to it, something deep.
Something that could never be re-created by the best of our iron monsters.
A natural beauty,
not something forged by the mechanical jaws of an urban factory
or synthetically reproduced by obscure chemical mixes and computer analyzed tests.

Nature made it for us to inspire wonder and awe.
To show us natural beauty and delicacy.
To waken primal emotions
that tear us from this unnatural monstrosity of the place we now call home.
Close your eyes and think back to a time before "Civilization".
A place in a majestic forest, where the only outside sounds,
are the melodious chirping of invisible birds.
As you sit cross legged on the forests soft floor,
you look up at the clear blue unpolluted sky,
watching the evergreen tops tickle the belies of passing white clouds.
All around, are more shades of green than you ever imagined possible.
Offsetting it all is a wild rose, in your hands.
It sticks out with a brilliantly colorful defiance.
A living fire on a serene background of brown and green. This is beauty.

I now understand that a rose is a sexless thing.
It's beauty is to be shared by man and woman alike.
So next time that you have the oppurtunity to stop and "smell the roses",
try to take a closer look and lose yourself to the beauty of the rose.

The Loneman
By Liusaidh

The lone man sits,
surrounded by white and orange;
the blue water staring at him.
Thoughts fill his mind with friends.
The fireball burns and bakes his tender flesh.
Green, lush, spiked hands reach up
and out three ways.
Minutes pass, hours pass,
and the longer he sits the more the
grains of white scratch
and scrape the tender flesh
. Skin parched by blazing flames,
sore muscles, and bones rise;
the dark blotch stretches toward the blue ice.
Pain! Salt fills the cuts,
burning his skin.
"I can't, I must, I won't."
He struggles to the shadowy greens, browns, vermillions, teals...
Arms to knees; head to arms;
back to cool winds.
Slowly his sea green eyes emerge;
A SINGLE LONE TEAR ; A SINGLE LONE MAN.

Barren.
by Liusaidh

Like the Sahara.
Never rich and fertile;
only dry, cracked loniness
. How splendid to feel the
ever abundant fertility
and the ability to over flow your
boundaries like the Nile.
Robbed of life, never to see the
beginning of life naturally.
Forever saddened by the thought;
though ever within this barren
world a heart beats with the gift
of love to give and receive.

First Work
by Momma Mia (Frankie}

on this very day
when people will say
have you heard from the weez*
you will answer oh pleez
she has gone into rhyme
clear out of her mind
if this isn't so
then I just don't quite know
how it can be
that just little ol' me
could talk now this way
with nothing really to say
just taking up time
but at least it's with rhyme
with that I will close
and end this great prose
glad your my friend
and this is the end.

Roses are red, violets are blue.
I wrote this poem just for you.

A Walk
by Galadriel

I want to invite you to take a walk with me ...
and mind you it is a very, very long walk ...
Because along the way I want to share
one blazing sunset after another,
two rainbows that never fade,
three whippoorwills always singing,
four sunrises every fifth day,
five enormous smiles at least,
six gentle hugs for sure won't be enough,
seven butterflies all in a row each time,
eight maple trees turned color every fall,
nine silly giggles endlessly,
ten roaring firside chats or more,
eleven or better welled up tears of joy,
and twelve times forever of the best years we have left.
For you see this walk is for a lifetime
and this invite is sent only to friends.

Girl From Tomorrow
by Coup1_ (Gord)

While surfing 'round the chat rooms,
one blue and gloomy day.
I was feeling rather lonely,
Didn't have much to say.

Entering each and every room
and stareing at my screen.
Didn't really want to talk,
not trying to be mean.

Hello, how are you?
Feeling fine, I guess I'll be ok.
Got to go, just passing through,
you have a real nice day.

Same old bla bla bla bla
every room that I would pick.
All this idle chit chat
was making me real sick.

Entering yet another room,
I wonder where I'm at.
There's Lyones, Trastamara,
Rapid, Chilly, Cat.

At first I didn't know
what it was that kept me there.
Lyones walked across the room,
moving closer with her chair.

Trastamara's cutting wit,
and pukeing from the Cat.
A magic feeling swept over me
and in that room I sat.

Rapid tried some wit on me,
I cut him down real fast.
Then she turned and spoke to me,
I heard the voice of Trast.

Tell us about Coup she said to me,
with all the wit that she could muster.
Surprisingly I stayed real calm,
even though I felt real flustered.

We hugged and kissed and laughed and joked,
till I was rolling on the floor.
There was no way that I could turn
and exit through the door.

Everyday I would find her
and go to where she's at.
I'd kiss and hug and hold her,
as she sat upon my lap.

One day I found her flirting,
with some other fellows.
I tried my best not to show
that I was feeling jealous.

Hugs and kisses Trast.
How are you today?
Oh my God! She's not talking to me.
My blue sky's turning grey.

We have to talk she said
in a terse and matter of fact way.
We have to talk she said to me,
not now, some other day.

The nervous feeling
come and gone.
We had that talk
and then moved on.

Until today I believed in miracles
and holding on to your dreams.
Now she's pulled away from me,
dreams aren't real it seems.

She lives in my tomorrows,
I live in her yesterdays.
I dreamed we'd get together
and occupy today.

Now it's all slipped away
and fallen through the cracks.
As I open my eyes I realise,
I want tomorrow back.

Plans - what plans?
by Laughing Dove

I was seventeen, head in the clouds,
eager and full of spirit.
Looking towards an unknown goal
Reaching for the outer limits.
Dreamin of future prospects, contemplating the climb,
Nothing to hinder or stop me - not in this day and time.

I was 24, eyes looking straight,
first glow of womanhood
meshed with my mate.
Still waiting to climb - to reach the goal,
Wait! I'm pregnant. Put everything on hold!

39 was creepin' near, a few gray hair to hide,
busy with hubby and kids and work.
"When is it my turn?", I cried.
All of a sudden the kids are grown,
Hubby is almost through school,
The boys are all bringin friends home, who say
"Man - your mom is way cool!"

The big 5-0 is almost here
and what do I have to show?
Hubby's job, the kid's education
- and me with not enough dough.

What happened to those goals of mine?
When did they slide by the way?
It happened with the passing of time
I had other things to fill my day.

Somehow during the time of my life,
my goals had started to shift.
So that when it was finally time for "me"
My plans had gone adrift.

No longer did I try to live
for only "myself" and "me".
But realized my goals had been met
When I looked at my family.

Lord of My Dreams
by Eldon Krueger

Emerging from the tunnel of darkness
I awoke with a feeling of thankfulness
For I was falling from the darkest of skies
A dream of my fears covered my eyes
Disarrayed with illusions of a bottomless pit
Tattooed with a feeling I couldn't forget
But it was then, when I first saw the light
My shiniest day, came in the middle of the night
Overcoming my fear, with your presence by my side
The Lord of my dreams, was suddenly my guide
Showing me a sprit,I have never seen before
Lord, it was you, knocking at my door
The sound awoke me, as I sat up in bed
Then I bowed my head to pray, and this is what I said.
"Lord, your arms were open for me when I started to fall
I give you my heart,my soul, I give you my all
For you are the purifier of my water
And my life ever after!"

Amen
