A LOST TAIL...
AH! The poor Pierre. I took him for awhile, to play with him and make him run on the
couch, when he had the brilliant idea to jump on the floor. He didn`t have such a great
occasion to run away since weeks. Guess what? He ran under the fridge!
After hours of trying to catch him I decided to let him go until the next morning. During
the night I could hear him run from one place to another, gnawing a piece of paper
here, the TV remote there... he even came on the bed to wake me up by walking on my
body and my face!! I tried to catch him when he passed, but no way : he IS faster than me.
So that`s how I woke up in the morning searching for little Pierre. Nowhere. Not even
under the fridge. I figured he went to sleep in a secret corner, but I couldn`t find him.
I was beginning to feel tired of searching.
Suddenly, he passed in front of me as fast as a formula one and went straight under the
bed. The only prob is that the bed is directly on the floor... that means he was IN the bed
springbox. Oops! He found a little hole and opened it in the night. All night I had sleep
with the gerbil eating my mattress!
Then began the quest for rescuing Pierre. I could hear him make little noises and I could
see him trapped between two springs. I decided to lift the bed and started ripping the
underclothe of it. Pierre was hanging there, looking at me with hope and fear. I gently
pulled the springs appart and he could move a little. Then I tried to take him with my
other hand. Pierre didn`t want to be taken. He grabbed the spring with all his 4 legs and
made a big strong jump. I had the tail between my two fingers at this time and before I
could realize... there was no Pierre attached to it anymore !!
We were both traumatized. Pierre stopped moving and I could get him back to his cage. I
put peroxide on what was left of the tail and went to the vet the next day. He had no
infection and they just sew the cut. After a couple of days, little Pierre was back to his
dayly gnawing and scratching routine...
