Some Genealogy Web Sites

Genealogy Home Page
The original genealogy home page on the internet. A great place to start looking, with many useful links and pointers to on-line information about genealogy research.
Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet
The most comprehensive index to internet genealogy resources available. Almost overwhelming in its content.
Genealogy Resources on the Internet
Another large repository of genealogy links.
A Barrel of Genealogy Links
Yet another good genealogy index.
National Archives & Records Administration
Although they don't offer direct on-line access to NARA records, they do provide a lot of useful information on their immense records collections... where to start... how to order copies... locations of regional branches... etc...
SOUNDEX Conversion Utility
This site is maintained by the Rand Corporation, and is a useful on-line utility to convert surnames into SOUNDEX code used in many census records and data base search engines.
LDS Ancestry Search
Ancestry Search is a site maintained by the Church of Latter Day Saints. This site allows you to search some of the databases normally available only on CD-ROM, such as the Social Security Death Index which is offered free of charge.
Genealogical Publishing Company
GPC offers one of the most extensive catalogs of books related to genealogy and local history. They have been in this business for some years, and I have purchased several works from them in the past. They often reissue historically significant books that have been out of print and unavailable for years.
U.S. Civil War Center
Hosted by Louisianna State University, this site contains many links to internet resources on the American Civil War, and they are in the process of compiling an extensive clearinghouse for such sites.
