Stress and Diabetes

Many conditions or circumstances cause the liver to make more glucose. STRESS does this by causeing the body to make more of the STRESS HORMONES (cortisone, epinephrine, growth hormone, glucagon). You will remember that these are the same hormones that raise blood glucose after it has gone too low.

 WHAT IS STRESS?

Well, it could be a lot of things, like:

When blood glucose falls too low, the brain sends signals to other parts of the body, called glands. These glands release substances called hormones (adrenalin, cortisone, glucagon and growth hormone). These hormones then raise the blood sugar back to normal levels. They do this by working on the liver and on muscle to cause them to make glucose.
