Peter Pearsall In the Bio. section

Art Mattson, Lynbrook Village Historian has just published a book entitled "A History Of Lynbrook"
Lynbrook was onced called "Pearsalls Corner"; the name which I took and used as the title of my web pages.
Art Mattson has informed me that this book has over 200 vintage photographs and postcards along with dozens of charts, drawings and maps. He has also included the role of the Pearsall family in the founding and shaping of the village. There is a family tree for the Near Rockaway Pearsalls, and important documents signed by Wright Pearsall, maps showing the Pearsall land holdings and Pearsall photos are included.
Other surprises are revealed:
  • In 1776, a Revolutionary War battle was fought in Lynbrook.
  • In 1837, a mass grave was dug here with 139 bodies placed in it.
  • In 1897, a “Church War"‚was fought in Lynbrook, with arsonists burning down the Old Sand Hole Church.
  • During World War I, a dog named Caesar was Lynbrook's biggest fund-raiser.
  • In the 1920s, the KKK was not only active in Lynbrook, it was a menace.
  • During Prohibition a corrupt Lynbrook police chief was sent to the State Penitentiary and two other chiefs were fired.
  • A fireman and three policemen were killed in the line of duty in the mid-1900s and forgotten.
  • In 1925, Long Island's most daring train robber, Lynbrook's own James Watt Cadoo was captured on Earle Avenue.
