Welcome to John & Joanne's

Home on the Web

We're John and Joanne Magness and we live in a small town at the Head of the Chesapeake Bay.  We enjoy the beauty of the river and the peace it brings to us.  Our area is rich in history and tradition and our roots are  deep.   We enjoy sharing these traditions with our friends.

We have two daughters and one son, along with two granddaughters and one grandson.  We are fortunate to have a grandfather (103 years old) living with us, along with John's mother, five cats and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.  Although our son lives in New York City, we are happy to have our daughters, their families and our large extended family nearby.

John is a Certified Public Accountant and a Builder. He is the Vice Chairperson of the Town Zoning Commission, enjoys gardening, antiquating and "showing Jo the world".  This year, he has planned vacations in the Virgin Islands for the Spring and the Devon Coast of England for the late Summer.  In his spare time, he is mastering the art of decoy carving.

Jo is a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse.  She retired as the Director of a Department of Veterans Affairs Partial Hospitalization Program and is devoting her time to "playing" with our grandchildren,  grubbing in her herb garden and making baskets.  Jo is Past Regent of Head of Elk Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and Past Senior State President of the Maryland Society, Children of the American Revolution.  She volunteers at the Hagley Museum & Library and the Cecil County Historical Society.   She serves on the Cecil County Women's Commission and the Children's Review Board for Cecil County.  She is also the community member of the Animal Rights Sub-Committee of the Perry Point Division of VAMHCS Research Committee.

Our shared love of history and pride in our community led to our interest in our family history.  Our research has taken us on adventures through courthouses and cemeteries, throughout the northeastern Maryland counties, along with the adjoining Pennsylvania area, New Jersey and Tidewater Virginia.   Our goal is to identify our emigrant ancestors and visit their homelands.
