Bird Tree Ornaments - Here are some easy treats to make that will attract lots of birds to your yard!
Peanut Butter Suet Pinecones
6 yards 18-gauge florist wire
12 pinecones
3 lbs. peanut butter
1 1/2 lbs. suet
10 lbs. birdseed
Twist an 18-gauge length of florist wire around big end of each pine cone, making a large hook at the end of the wire. Mix peanut butter and suet. Using small handfuls, spread the mixture on the pinecones. Roll the pinecones in a large bowl of birdseed. Kids love to do this!
Yield: 12 pinecones
Cranberry Hearts
6 yards 22-gauge florist wire
2 lbs. fresh cranberries
Cut florist wire into 18-inch lengths. Thread cranberries onto wires, bend each into a heart shape
Yield: 12 ornaments
Orange Baskets
12 oranges
3 cups birdseed
3 cups suet
3 cups sunflower seeds
3 cups raisins
12 feet 1/2 inch wide ribbon
Cut oranges into basket shapes and scoop out pulp. Put birdseed and next three ingredients in individual bowls. Fill the orange baskets with ingredient from the bowls. Loop ribbon through basket "handles".
Yield: 12 ornaments
Pretzel Garlands
Unsalted miniature pretzels
1/4 inch wide red ribbon, cut to desired lenght of garland
Weave ribbon through pretzels to make an edible garland for birds.
