32. John MILAM was born about 1795 in Halifax Co., VA or Laurens Co., SC. He died about 1855 in Giles Co., TN. John was born in Halifax Co., VA in 1795. He is believed to be issue of Thomas Milam & Elizabeth Talbert who were married in Halifax Co., VA, on 12 Jun 1786. John came to Laurens Co., SC, via York Co., SC, with his family when John Milam, his Grandfather, Thomas' Father, died in York Co., SC, circa Aug 1789. There is evidence, 1810 US Census, Laurens Co., SC, & Deed Book J., p. 224, Laurens Co., SC, & Laurens Dist. Roll # 1923, SC Dept.of Archives & History, that the Thomas Milam family was still in Laurens Co. as late as 29 Oct 1817. Thomas Milam did not appear on the 1820 US Census, Laurens Co., SC. Thomas' family started moving West circa 1818. Thomas is recorded as having died in Bartow Co., GA in 1823. It is believed that the sons of Thomas, John & Coleman had moved on to Franklin Co., TN and was joined by Thomas' widow circa 1923. This would track, as John's 1st child, Jefferson is verified by evidence as having been born in Franklin Co., TN, circa 1820. He was John's only male child in the 1830 US Census, Franklin Co., TN. He was recorded as being 42 years old and as being born in Franklin Co., TN, in his 1862 Muster Roll Record of Co. C, 32 Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) , retrieved from the National Archives in Washington, D.C. John, and his wife Mary, appear in the US Census Records for Franklin Co., 1830, Coffee Co., in 1840, & Giles Co., TN in 1850. John apparently died sometime after the 1850 census.
