This is still an excellent website. I am updating my Email address. I lived in Dilley in the early 1950's and attended Dilley Elementry school. I remember my fourth grade teacher, Mrs.Moffitt. I have some family information on names listed but I'm also se king more information on them. I have lots of fond memories of Dilley, Texas. My parents, George and Kate (McBee) Jacobs are buried at Covey Chapel next to many other relatives.

I am a Frio County native (Dilley) who lives in Dallas. Thanks for putting up the web site. I enjoy checking it from time to time -- especially the article about Mr. Rumfield and the Gin. I have enjoyed your web site for the past eight months or so, and have been remiss in not telling you what a marvelous job you have done on it. It is obviously a labor of love. I recently became interested in the history and geneology of Frio county (seems like we all get more interested as our hair turns gray), since my family's Texas roots mostly seem to begin there. While crashing around the internet, I have come across many state and county sites, and I will have to say that yours is the standard by which they should all be measured. Thanks again for many hours of enjoyment.

Congratulations on your webpage. Just had an opportunity to view your Frio County website. It is excellent. As a matter of fact, it is the best I have seen. I am really pleased on how you presented the cemetery records. How difficult is it to list them s you have on this website. I have done alot of work on the Duval County cemeteries, and would like to list them as you have on this website. Could you give me some recommendations? Thank you.

What a wonderful job you're doing with Frio County. I have Frio County heritage and have gleaned some corroborating information from your sources and choices. From the 1887 tax roles, you have a question mark beside the name Nackles. You're right - the family name was Nuckles. I know this because my gr-grandmother was Frances Bramlette Farris (called Fan). She wrote a manuscript about life n Frio County during the 1870s and 1880s and she mentions the Nuckles family. Her book was published in 1985, many years after her death, by TCU Press. Its title is "From Rattlesnakes to Road Agents: Rough Times on the Frio." Fan says that her mother is uried beside her father in the Longview Cemetary. However, when I access the Longview Cemetary, her mother is not listed there. Her father, McHenry Bramlette, is there. Are there any unmarked graves at Longview? I appreciate your time in this matter. Thanks!

John, just wanted to thank you for your Frio County Web Site: I was born South of Dilley (across the LaSalle County Line near Millett) but I grew up in Dilley. My Mother, Louella Vine, still lives there. I enjoy reading and researching information about t e county, especially the area around Dilley west to Covey Chapel. My great grandmother, Grace Smith, moved to Covey Chapel in 1911 to teach school and there she married my Grandfather, Arch Moffett. He and his brother Jess, farmed and ranched around Dilley all their lives and ran a farm implement business in Dilley called Moffett's store. My father, Bernard Vine, bought the store and ran it for many years after which it closed because of the recession and drought of the 1950's. As my time permits, I hope to investigate more about my family and their early days in Dilley and the surrounding area.

Great site! As a descendant of a family that lived in Frio City and then moved to Pearsall as one of its first inhabitants, I have particular interest in Frio County history. My greatgrandfather came to Texas with the Second Cavalry from the Washington .C. area in 1855 and stayed here when his enlistment was up in 1860. He served in the Confederate Army under Duffy and then returned to South Texas to live in Bandera. He then became one of the first half-dozen or so bilingual Methodist preachers in thi country. Pearsall was just one of his many posts. He served there in 1904-5.

I love your web page! It is very attractive as well as helpful. My father Tom Nowlin was born and grew up near Bigfoot and we still have the old family ranch there. Since Dad was orphaned as a small child, I don't have a lot to go for family research. hope I can find some help through this page. Judy

I enjoy your site as it is one of the better in the TxGenWeb project. The Christmas music was especially nice. Do you know if the county or any historical society in Frio Co. has published any type of history book similiar to that of Medina or Atascosa? Thank you

Dear Friend: Some years back Mrs. Higson (Pearsall Librarian) wrote and told me she had discovered that Pearsall was named for Thomas Pearsall of New York City, an official of the IG&N RR. I seem to recall she said the middle name was Cornell, which would be logical enough, as there were and are many Cornells around New York and Long Island. Do you remember when Douglas Pearsall and his wife visited Pearsall from Sydney, Australi in l966? I have the clippings from the front page of "The Pearsall Leader" with their picture. I'll be glad to hear form you anytime. Many thanks.

Franklin Ward (Doc) Neatherlin lived in Frio County and, buried in Frio Cemetery about 1906, was a saddlemaker. It is said that as of 15 years ago some of his saddles were still around. Franklin Ward was my husband's great uncle. We are heavy into fami y genealogy. We would be interested in locating one of his saddles. Would you know of someone that could help us? Thank you, Suzanna

Hi, I am interested to learn where Pearsall Texas recieved its name? I live in LI, NY. where Henry Pearsall first settled in 1644. Most Pearsalls originate from Henry. That's why I wish to know about Pearsall Tx. Thank you,

Thank you very much for all your time and effort in helping others in their research. My MCDONALD, FORREST, RAGSDALE, and STIDHAM lines all went through Bexar, Atascosa, Frio and Dimmit counties. Don't know their paths before then. Thanks again for a wonderful helping hand.

A really nice site and some great links. This sounds like it might develop into something J. Frank Dobie and his peer writers would have endorsed.I am glad this is up and going. Good luck. Anne Fitzpatrick from McAllen

I have waited for a long time to see someone take hold of this county. Glad to see you aboard and well done. I have a historically interesting story about the Concho Ranch and need to finish my research in Frio County concerning a murder, an escape and recapture of the man who killed a man on the Concho Ranch. Nice to know that there will be a little help now.
