In January sunshine that twenty-sixth day, leather boots crossed the warm golden sand,
By the flag they knelt, was the breeze that they felt
Our first breath as a new British land?
But other eyes watched from the shoreline through blue mist that came with the dawn,
They would now need to share - all the tribes that were there
Since the dream time when this land was born.
Waken Australia to a new dawn,
Shake your bonds, seek your goal, find your way,
Take a new look outside, rediscover your pride
On this our Australia Day.
Many have come since from faraway shores with new cultures, new thoughts and new ways,
And their will and endeavour has meant that forever new patterns are moulding our race.
Come brothers and sisters, wherever you be, feel the power as united we stand,
Southern Cross is our sign, a bright path yours and mine,
Our futures in each other's hand.
