My father taught us not to fight
unless we had good cause
he said that many men had died
for sake of wrongful wars.
He tried to teach us right from wrong
to sometimes walk away
to let our anger cool inside
till the light of another day.
He taught us to be strong of heart
of the power of just one smile
to do what's right, when aye we could
to walk that extra mile.
All those things come back today
as I watched his comrades marching by
I remembered those who'd fought for me
for peace and love to die.
March on old Aussie soldiers
hold your heads up proud
sing of songs of victory
sing them long and sing them loud.
You have shed your blood for country
for the right that we be free
for coming generations
in a land across the sea.
As brothers you fought side by side
your spirits joined as one
to end the scourge of tyranny
so we could feel the sun.
We owe you more than words can say
we are here because of you
on the desert sand and jungles
your courage has shone through.
Yes, today I saw you marching
and tears dwelled in my eyes
for I thought I heard my father's voice
abd the ones who'd fell .... faint cries
march on old Aussie ANZACs
stand tall .... you've made us proud
sing your songs of victory
sing them long and sing them loud.
- From Gavin Atkinson ... dedicated to the ANZACs
