Why do Cub Scouts Wear Uniforms?
The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. There are
many reasons for this. One reason stands out
above all the rest. We wear the uniform because
it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which
we are committed: character development, citizenship
training, and physical and mental fitness.
The fact that youth and adult members of Scouting wear a uniform doesn't
mean that we're all alike. We come from
different ethnic and racial backgrounds. We have
our own religious beliefs and political views. We are each individuals
with our own family traditions and loyalties. So
the uniform is not intended to hide our individuality. It is a bond that
ties us
together in spite of our differences. The Scouting
movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we are
openly identifying ourselves with those values where
everyone can see us. Boys and adults alike should take pride in
belonging to such a movement and wear the uniform
as it is intended.
Pack 606 Uniform Policy
Our Pack requires a uniform from the waist up only. The Tiger
Cub uniform is an official Orange Tiger Cub T-shirt
(including paw patches) and a Tiger Cub hat. Uniforms
for Wolf, Bear, and Webelos include shirt (including appropriate
patches), neckerchief, neckerchief slide, and Cub
Scout or Webelos hat. Wolf and Bear Cubs wear a blue Cub Scout
shirt. Webelos wear the tan Webelos shirt. All Scouts
wear the Red Vests for segments, patches, letters and medals.
Uniforms should be worn by Cubs and adult leaders at all Den and Pack
Meetings, and on any outings. Uniforms may be
worn to school, church, or any family function.
The uniform may be worn while participating in a pack money-earning
project if approved by the local council.
Uniforms should not be worn when wear and tear is likely, such as while
playing in sporting events. The uniform may not be
worn by either Cub Scouts or adult leaders when
involved in any distinctly political endeavor, when appearing on the
stage professionally, or when participating in demonstrations
not authorized by the Boy Scouts of America.
The Uniform and the U.S. Flag
The uniforms worn by members of the BSA are sanctioned by the United
States Congress. Those in sanctioned uniform
(scouts, Coast Guard, police, etc.) give the appropriate
formal salute when the flag is raised or passes by in procession.
Cub Scouts and adult leaders salute with the two-finger
Cub Scout sign (right hand, fingers together) placed to the right
side of their forehead or cap. Cub Scouts and adult
leaders not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the
heart and men with head cover should remove it and
hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Uniformed Scouts
should salute the flag when they recite the pledge
of allegiance.

Uniform Inspections
October1, 1998
Dear Parents:
On Wednesday, December 16, our Pack will be
performing our 1st Annual Uniform Inspection (at the Cake Bake). Part
of scouting is taking pride in our uniforms. To
encourage our cubs in this area, each Den will be inspected by two leaders
in the Pack. To help you understand the requirements,
the following list is to assist you in preparing your scout for this
inspection. Please go over this list with your boy
which will explain what the judges will be looking for. We will judge in
the following areas only:
1. General Appearance 20 points
2. Cap 5 points
3. Neckerchief and Slide 5 points (not applicable
for Tigers)
4. Shirt 15 points
5. Insignia’s and patches 20 points
6. Conduct during inspection 35 points
7. All boys in each Den must be consistant,
(all having identical Uniforms) i.e., one boy has a blue Cub Belt and another
has a Olive Scout Belt
We will NOT judge on: belt, pants, socks or
shoes. Instead we will be judging on overall neatness under the “General
Appearance” category.
Recognition will be given to the Den within
each rank that scores the highest point
average per scout.
If you have any questions, please contact Dennis
Conatser (498-5960) or John Rynearson
(991-3974).
See you at the Pack Meeting!!
Your Cubmaster,
Dennis Conatser
