.....The kids were tucked in and COMFY. Sherry paused at the entrance for a final, final REFLECTION. Anthony also performed the final house BLESSING. One final shot of the HOUSE and WE WERE OFF!!!!!!!!!
.....It is July 19th, 2003. The car is purring across Virginia. The kids are laughing. Sherry has the broadest smile I've seen in three years. It's a beautiful day and......"WAIT A MINUTE!!!...THE ENGINE JUST DIED!!"....."Pull over right there!!"...."Now, what's with this @$#%@&! CAR?"
.....Take a deep breath. Don't panic. Where are we? Wytheville, Virgina. Why, we haven't even left Virginia yet. (Ed.note: It would be another three days before they did.).
.....Luckily, we had another car along. We took the truck off the tow dolly and Anthony drove off to the glorious town of Wytheville looking for assistance. Within an hour, we were towed to a local, local, very local garage. "I think it's the fuel pump," I said hopefully. Uh huh. You think so?! "Yeah, it just stopped dead and I couldn't restart it." "Uh huh"
"Well, I hate to tell you this.....it's the timing belt". (expletive deleted) Groooaaaannnnnn!!
.....We checked in to the lovely SLEEP INN up the street to begin our extended stay. We swam in the pool, we went down for our free breakfast, we swam in the pool, we read the paper, we swam in the pool, we trucked to the local sights, we swam in the pool.......FINALLY, it was ready........ A bit more sober, WE WERE OFF AGAIN! (But, now three days behind schedule. There were deadlines to meet...namely the shipping of the cars from Long Beach and our flights to Hawaii).
.....Holey Moley, we drove like the dickens. We ate up the landscape and spit it out: Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, ARIZONA, and, finally into Terminator Country.
.....We got in a very short visit to San Diego but it was nice to see the FOLKS. Soon enough we got the cars to Long Beach, returned to San Diego and, on July 28, caught our Hawaiian Airlines flight back to the Aloha Isles.........."AAAALOOOOOHAAAAAAAAA"
