Hi! My name is Jim Mannan and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Late last year I had some free time so I decided to get my feet wet on a project I've been wanting to undertake for some time--researching our family genealogy. My chief aim here is to provide information for any cousins we might have out there who are doing likewise.
HELP! If you see any mistakes or something you know is wrong here would you be kind enough to let me know? I make no claims of infallability. Thanks!
If you have more or new information not noted here on these families and persons I'd love to know about them. Contact me at
finvarra@hotmail.com or jimmannan@geocities.com.
I've composed this page on Microsoft Explorer and have looked at it on Netscape Gold. It should look fine on those. If the HTML looks wrong on your browser let me know!
If your name is here and you would prefer it not be please contact me and I will remove it.

Links I'm Actively Trying to Confirm
I've been able to partially confirm a number of the links in our genealogy through theinternet and other sources. Below are a few links I've thusfar been unable to make or, in some cases, completely confirm.Parentage of William Pemberton
William Pemberton (died bef. 1826?) is my great great great grandfather. His daughter, my great great grandmother Sarah J. Pemberton, was born in 1822. Sarah's mother, Margaret Gregg Pemberton, remarried Grafton Baker Whitaker (I assume William died). According to notes left behind by my Grandmother Nellie Mannan, William Pemberton is supposed to be a brother of John Clifford Pemberton, a General of the Confederate Army (Pemberton was the Confedrate Commander at Vicksburg). Unfortunately, a gedcom file I have obtained of Pemberton's brothers and sisters shows no William, though there seems to be some confusion as to the date of the father's marriage. A biography of General Pemberton says that his father married the General's mother, Rebecca Clifford, before he was twenty--this would have been around 1803. This would have left a 10 year period between the marriage and the birth of their first son, Israel (General Pemberton was the second born). The gedcom file I have indicates that the marriage was in 1812, much closer to the birth of Israel Pemberton (this would make much more sense, since from 1812 to 1835 Rebecca Clifford Pemberton was having children at the rate on one every one or two years) I am trying to find out if John Pemberton II, the father of the General, may possibly have had an earlier marriage and children. The Pemberton family from which General John C. Pemberton came was a prominent Philadelphia Quaker family with roots in the formation of Pennsylvania.
