The CASAVANT BROTHERS developped the Modern Organ.

As I was speaking to Tom Casavan, of Cupertino in California, I made a comitment to do a section on these turn of the century cousins who had Dominique Casavant, his ancestor, as Grand-Father.

In all things, there is a beginning. Here is simply a "brush-up" (a beginning) on the Casavant brothers and Salluste Duval, the brother of my Great-grand-Mother, Adelaide Duval, Mother to Yvonne Dupil.

Friday Noon
Hello Thomas:
Yes, I think I found the Grandfather of YOUR Grandfather, but I still must go on to a website to research this.
It was as I thought: a reference to a Dominique Casavant
(their GrandFather, who had to be born before 1780)
in the French book I have commemorating the 100th annivarsary of the Casavant Brothers, Claver (1855-1933) and Samuel (1850-1929) and I am mailing you the three pages, including the picture of his son Joseph, born in 1807, who married Marie-Olive Sicard de Carufel

Dominique Casavant (? born c. 1773) was married to
Marie-Desanges (Marie-des-Anges) (it means Mary of the Angels) Lacaillade.
My supposition is that they had other children than Joseph, so that is what I am going to look at (you can check my page at www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/6403/0master.html and click on Genealogy Forum and also Eastman's Newsletter, he is both sites and you enter your surname to see what they have) Dominique Casavant was in all likelihood quite an aggressive businessman.

He had been a farmer (cultivateur, which means he raised crops) out of town, and it must have led him to have some cows and to learn to butcher animals (I have to check still your Ste.Hergemenide) and since there must have been a penury (lack) of butchers, and it must have been good money, he moved in the town of St.Hyacinthe. I do not know yet about other kids, but when his son Joseph got to be 16, Dominique, as was the accepted custom, gave his son to be apprenticed, signing a three years contract with Thomas Marchesseau, a smith, (forgeron), to learn to work metals and make things in fire, Tom, I forgot what you call it in English, the place for the horses to be shoed.

I'll continue my research and let you know

Hope you and your family are doing well Tom, it sure was a pleasure talking to you the other day.
Have a good week-end
Danielle.
