Getting With It
Wednesday, 22-Jul-98 23:17:00

I will get with it and post some info about me. After High School I decided to go to college so I could learn how to find gold and oil wells. So I went to Colorado School of Mines, graduating with a degree in Geophysical Engineering. This is getting a little ahead of my self. After two years of college I was wondering if I made the right choice. A young lady entered my life and we were married Feb12, 1961. Suddenly my choices became clear and I was going to school full time and getting excellent grades (being married was a good life and still is for me). We now have 3 children and one grandson. After college I did work in the Oil fields doing well logging for a company called Schlumberger Well Services. The hours were long and involved a lot of time away from home. The work was extremely interesting (I was helping other people find their oil wells.) I moved from this to the glamorous Aerospace Industry and worked for Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach Florida. It was an exciting business until our company didn't win a large contract they were working for (jet engines for the SST aircraft). When the contract wasn't awarded to us, there were massive layoffs (like 25% of the workforce). It was time to move on (before I got a pink slip) and I accepted a munitions engineering position with the US Air Force. At times my future didn't look to secure with the Air Force either when they starting eliminating positions and I was RIFed (RIF= Reduction in Force) and demoted in grade but made more money (folks its the government--go figure.) In the long run the experiences benefited me more than my fellow engineers who never got RIFed. I ended up retiring from the Airmunitions Division in 1990. Three weeks after I retired, I was hired back as a "Rehired Annuniant" which I worked for 4 months. I was hired later by a contractor as a consultant--It was kind of funny how that happened. I wasn't looking for work when this contractor calls and says they would like to hire me. I said, " I am not looking for anything fill time and would like Wednesdays off - that's my golf day". To my surprise they said that would be O.K. so I worked for them for a while until they started wanting me to work Wednesdays. So long. Recently a Lawyer from Las Vegas hired me to be an expert witness (and technical consultant) for him in a potential lawsuit. I work part-time reviewing documentation and advising him what the documents mean and what other documentation we may need. It so far has been intellectually exciting.
Aside from work and family activities, I love to golf and after retirement organized a golf league we call Wasatch Wednesday Wackers. We are in our 7th year and today had our 107th golfer golf with us. I keep all the records, make out the schedules each week, coordinate courses to play, etc. I have almost as much fun with the record keeping and management as with golf. I have met and made a lot of really good friends with this. Also after retirement I organized a series of luncheons for engineers who had retired or was about to and that has been a real fun activity too. In my younger days I was very active in the Jaycees and held several offices from the local to the state. My chapter honored me with a Senatorship into JCI International. I am currently the Treasurer for the Utah Jaycee Senate.
This is getting long so will write more later. Oh, I am still married to that wonderful young lady I talked about earlier. Her name is Judy (Ardueser) and is from Ft. Collins.

I always liked our class motto "cooperate to graduate". It had a kind of closeness about it.
Hey write me and ask me some questions and tell a little about you life.

With affection for all, DEL

Thanks Del!
