Hello. Dobro Dosli. Kia Ora. Welcome to the JOHN CIBILICH'S FAVOURITE SITES page. Here are a few of my favourite sites and some of my genealogy references. The majority of these are related to the topics of Duba and Croatia.
One of the first Duba related sites I came across was ANTONY NOBILO'S HOMEPAGE titled DUBA - PELJESAC PENINSULA. Antony has some great pictures of Duba and some interesting links. Antony lives in Sydney Australia and has a connection to Duba through the Jurisich family. It was probably this site more than any that inspired me to start my own.
Another pictorial site about Duba and surrounding areas is PAT BARRY'S HOMEPAGE titled PHOTOS OF DALMATIA. As well as photos of Duba there are some excellent images of Trpanj , Dubrovnik , Mljet and Korcula. The Barry family lives in Texas USA and has a connection to Duba through the Slabic family.
KARMEN AND ANA SLABIC'S HOMEPAGE titled ZULJANA has some beautiful images of the village Zuljana on the Peljesac Peninsula. Karmen and Ana live in the USA. Their father is from Duba.
If your ancestors are from Dubrovnik or the surrounding areas you may be able to use VEKARIC'S INDEX OF FAMILY NAMES. This VEKARIC'S INDEX gives the century and village of the first documented ancestor for any given surname and it is free !
DUBA - AN AMERICAN VILLAGE features a video clip of BERISLAV MURINA. DUBA AN AMERICAN VILLAGE was part of a documentary that featured on Croatian television I think.
The book YUGOSLAVS IN LOUISIANA by MILOS M. VUJNOVICH first published in 1974 gives a good overview of Croatian history ( both in Europe and Louisiana. ) It also provides some interesting lists of names and dates. I have also used a manuscript titled A HISTORY OF DUBA written by STIPO L. CIBILIC in 1973 and later translated by VLAHO ( WALLY ) D. CIBILIC .
The article CROATIANS IN LOUISIANA by CAROLYN WARE also provides a good overview of the migration to Louisiana. CROATIANS IN LOUISIANA also provides a good deal of information about traditional life in Louisiana.
