My Fireplace

This is how the fireplace looked the day I first saw the house. Ugh!
About five minutes after we took possession of the house, that awful white shelf was gone. That was when we found out that the previous owners had installed the trim and the shelf and THEN painted them white! It took me hours to scrub off all of the soot that had accumulated over the years, and even longer to find something that would take the bits of white paint off the brick!! Two weeks later, my mother in law showed up with a crow bar, and the white trim was gone. I guess she didn't think it looked good, eh? =)

This is how it looks after I painted it. I put on three different layers and types of paint to make the fireplace white without making it look like it was all goopy and, well, painted. Then I used a sea sponge to add a little colour to the white. You can't really see it in the picture, but it has light rose (the color of the walls) sponged on. I have painted the hearth twice now. First, I painted it grey (a couple months after I moved in) and now it is white. As soon as I get a picture done with my um-mm...pictures hanging, I'll add it here.
