Bob was whelped on Dec 24, 1992 in Texas and danced his way across the Rainbow Bridge on November 2nd, 2003.
Because of his personality we flunked fostering 101 quite quickly. Bob raced at several tracks in Flordia before being retired. We adopted him from Plainfield Pets / Rainbow's End Greyhound Rescue (Ann and Gary Whitney adoption reps. 570-639-2612). Bob came into our lives on the coldest, snowiest Mother's Day we've ever had in May of 1996 at the age of 3&1/2...since then he not only had hold of our hearts, but he was a great ambassador for greyhound adoption, he had his CGC, was a Therapy Dog, my Dogs 'n Kids(pet safety demo dog) and my First Dancing Dog. The song Bob loved the most was Underdog. Bob wore a red t-shirt with a big white "U" on the chest and a blue cape attached. He ran, jumped weaved, spun and twirled with a great big smile to the Underdog theme song. Of course he had to ham it up and look at the crowd to make sure he was pleasing them. Bob even had a fan club who would cheer him on!
Bob's Therapy side was done with just as much gusto. He loved visiting with sick and troubled children as well as with adults. He allowed people to hug, pet him,and pretty much check out every part of his body. On the couch Bob was the best foot warmer anyone could ever want!
Bob probably never grew up because we would get most of the greyhound puppies to foster and they kept him very young in mind, body and spirit.
One of our most memorable training times, and not the time I ended up with stitches or the time we all thought he broke my nose ;)was when I decided to teach Bob how to catch a kiss. I had put too much dish detergent into the sink and ended up with about a foot of white fluffy suds...Bob came around the corner and looked at me. I looked at him and then the suds...him and the suds..hummmmmm! I put a blob over his eye as he wiped it off I blew him a kiss...It worked well! Gave him praise and a treat. We did it a couple more times..it was working..I felt like wow..the next time I put the suds on blew him a kiss, he tipped his head, looked at me, came over, wiped the studs off on my hip, returned to where he was and look at me for his treat...trying not to laugh my pants off, but wanting to end our silly training session the way we should I tried again....Again Bob came over and wiped his head on my hip, returned to where he came from and looked at me..... With this look of "I got the silly white stuff off my head now where the heck is my treat!!!!!!!"
That was Bob: Always thinking, always up for fun and always giving unconditional love...
Bob, our handsome black greyhound, danced his way over the Rainbow Bridge Tuesday morning. For those of you who didn't know Bob, Bob was the reason I found freestyle. Although he never competed he did do freestyle demos. Everything Bob did he did with his whole body and heart. He was the eternal puppy who started to slow down about a month ago. On his journey he took a very big piece of our hearts. Bob would have been 12 on Christmas Eve.
