Well, it is spring break and Tonya has driven down to Lansing to visit Lee while he is working there. Since last month, here is our update.
Lee decided to try his luck at job searching in Lansing. He tried for the Census Bureau for the UP and got nowhere fast. He went to Lansing on a Wednesday, went to a couple of temp agencies the next morning and then got a call that afternoon with a placement until April. It is a manual labor job so we are praying for a different placement or for the Census Bureau's Lansing office to place him. If he continues with this job he will have to begin spending 1/4 of his income on chiropractic adjustments as his left arm is numb again.
School for Tonya is busy, busy, busy. She is struggling to stay focused and on track with her studies. She has found that she really enjoys the counseling and family therapy classes. She has decided that after getting her bachelors for teaching she will continue on and get a masters in family therapy. It is a skill much needed when we return to Metlakatla.
Tonya has thoroughly enjoyed her first collegiate forensics meet. She took part in forensics briefly while in high school and always wanted to get back into it. Her favorite teacher when in high school was the forensics coach during her junior year and she was hooked ever since. She competed in 2 oral interp areas (prose and poetry) as well as impromptu speaking. Impromptu was by far her favorite but in all events she realized just how unprepared she was. She plans to try to visit other meets to watch other competetors to better hone her skills as their team does not enter more than 2 meets per semester. She is looking at trying to bring forensics into the Metlakatla school system. She sees it as a skill that closely matches, in some areas, the oral traditions found within Native culture.
Tonya is teaching a kamikaze one-session study in spiritual/motivational gifts at the campus Bible study after break. She has a 30 minute presentation to give to her addiction class and 2 papers due as well shortly after returning to classes.
