Lee and I are still in Sault Ste. Marie for a few more days. We will leave for Lansing on the 10th of November and enjoy a church service there on the 11th with our friends at Union M.B. Church before setting out toward Miami. We hope to reach Miami by the 13th, put our things into barrels for shipping on the 13th or 14th, stay in a hostel in Miami the 14th and fly to Saint Lucia on the 15th of November. We will have a little bit of time once we are there to bum around the island and get to know our new surroundings.
I am working on my masters degree via an online program through the University of Phoenix. I have completed one class and will begin the next one on November 1. Lee did not get to the Hermeneutics course this summer so he will do so while in the Caribbean. Once he finishes the 2 tests and the final exam for this class he will be able to receive his diploma from Emmaus and be a real college graduate!
We will spend some time moving our belongings around. We had planned on keeping the 2 storage units that we currently have and putting our small car into one of them with things packed around it. Unfortunately the car is about 4-inches too long. We checked with the storage facility and they have a unit opening up in a couple of days that is the size of both our units combined so we will be moving all of our stuff (UGH!) from the 2 units to the 1 unit. We will save money this way which is good but we are really getting tired of lugging our things around. When we return for next summer we have mapped out a time schedule to go through all of our belongings that are being stored and use a Franciscan eye on them. Translation: we will be getting rid of much of our “things”. We feel that some of our belongings are owning us rather than the other way around.
We had a good summer and enjoyed Lee’s parents’ time on the island. It sounds as if this was their final year for working at the house. We may be able to entice them for a visit but I fear it will take something special to do so.
I made it through the Labor Day holiday which marks the 1 year anniversary of my mother being called home. I still miss her a great deal and often wish that I could just call her up or stop by and see her to ask about this or that.
Lee has had an accountability council for a while now (since we were in Alaska) and I have thought about it off and on for a number of years. I have come to the realization that I really need it and to that end I have asked some dear lady friends of mine to work with me as we support one another.
We visited the grandbaby and took many pictures so look on the web page
sometime around Christmas as I will work on scanning and uploading pictures
after we are in the Caribbean! She is adorable and full of energy.
She is also a ham! When I pointed a camera at her she new to hold
still and pose. We call it her cheese face!
There really isn’t a lot more to report. We do ask prayers for the following:
· Travel mercies while we are on the road and in the air
· Tonya will be called upon to substitute teach while in the
Caribbean
· Continued health of Lee’s parents and Tonya’s dad
· OK, health for all the members of our families J
· Perseverance for both of us in our educational endeavors
· Josh & Angie need prayer that they will once and for all
commit themselves to God as the center of their marriage and their lives
· Our missionary friends: the Marinello family in the Netherlands;
Cheryl in Michigan
· Emmaus Bible College is going through a great deal of restructuring
· Trinity Episcopal Church on Mackinac Island
· Metlakatla Congregational Church in Alaska
· That we will be open and receptive to the work God has waiting
for us ministering in the Caribbean
In Christ’s Enduring Love,
Lee & Tonya Sissel
