Today is a Gift from God
That is why it's called "The Present"

I started this website in 1999, but before I get on with the past, I'd like to tell you that I have a grandson, Joshua Evan Walker Logan, born January 11, 2000. I think I have finally found my calling in life! Being Joshua's "Grandmother". Please visit Josh's website.
Okay, now for family history. I am the daughter of Albert Burton Smith and Edna Jewell Monroe. I still have not found the true "origin" of either side of the family, but both my father's parents and my mother's ended up in Missouri.
My father's paternal grandparents came from Pennsylvania through Ohio and Indiana before settling in Jasper County, MO. The Ross side of the family also came to Missouri through the upper route from New Jersey, through Ohio and Indiana.
It appears my mother's paternal parents came to Missouri from their native Virginia through Tennessee. Also, the Griffin side of her family appears to have taken the same route.
So, I'd like to start my family history by commemorating my grandparents. Here's a photograph of my father's parents on their wedding day, September 17, 1901.
I'd like to share with you a favorite poem. This poem was written in the back of my grandmother's Bible. I don't know who wrote the poem, but my mother, and my sisters, and even my daughter have this poem written in their Bibles. Please enjoy and take these words to heart. Don't take it in a morbid way, but use it as a live for the day thought and give that special someone in your life their "pure white rose".
