Tolliver was adopted around Christmas 1995. Father made the mistake of giving me money and telling me to buy what I wanted for a gift from him and mother. Went to the pet store and there was this poor little ball python with the saddest brown eyes trying desperately to hide under a fake tree in his cage. People tapped on the glass and shook his cage making him curl up even more out of terror. I went to the counter, handed the clerk some money, and told her to get the snake out of the cage immediately.
For one entire year, Ares Tolliver (his given name) didn't eat. Completely normal as a ball python adjusts to his surroundings. My mother was scared to death of him at first but made baby steps in learning to touch and hold him. Now she carries him around on her shoulders like she had never feared a snake before.
Tolliver is quiet...you hardly know he is there. But when we get him out he wraps around our neck and puts his cold little nose against our ear and ''whistles'' into it...swear to god he whistles!!!! Thankfully, ball pythons live up to 25 yrs of age...the vet is guessing he is around 7 so that means many more years of his love.
