Location:
Latitude: 33 deg 12 min 07 secDirections: The cemetery is 8.1 miles from Lexington (fork of highway 12 and highway 17). At fork of highway 12 and highway 17, take highway 17 for 2.0 miles and take left onto Beulah Groove Road at the Cox Stable. Go .8 miles and take left onto road going to Sweetwater Church. At .8 miles there is a fork in the road, bear right. Go 2.3 miles to Sweetwater Church. At the Church, walk on the closed road for approximately 1/3 miles to the creek. The cemetery is approximately 100 yards over the left shoulder (240 deg.), up the hill, through the woods, and on the crest of the hill. Although I have not located the headstone, Martha Pickett, great granddaughter of Tom Stone of Maryland, is buried here. She was born in 1798 and died in 1857. Tom Stone was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Note: The bridge over the creek is being rebuilt, and
the road
will be reopened in the next few months. |
