Bear was working in her garden early in the morning when she saw Betty Bunny coming down the road. "Good morning Betty Bunny", she said "where are you going so early?"
"I'm on my way to town to buy a new bonnet for Easter." Betty said. "I don't have time to talk right now, I'll visit you tomorrow." said Betty as she went on her way.
Bear smiled and waved to her, then went back to work. Before long she saw Sally Snail coming down the road.
"Good morning Sally Snail, and how are you today?" Bear said.
"Very busy, I'm on my way to town to buy me a fancy bonnet to wear in the Easter parade. I'll stop by tomorrow to visit." Sally said, and she went on down the road.
Bear just smiled to herself and went back to work. Well here comes Gladys Grasshopper,
"Good Morning Gladys Grasshopper, are you on your way to town to buy a new bonnet?" asked Bear.
"Why yes I am!" said Gladys. "And I really must hurry, I'll visit with you tomorrow."
"Now let me see," said Bear, "So far Betty Bunny, Sally Snail, and Gladys Grasshopper have come by on their way to town to buy a new bonnet for Easter. I wonder who will be next?"
Bear went into her house for a cup of tea. She sat at the table to have it. Looking out her window, she saw Helen Hen coming down the road with her two little chicks.
"Hello," said Bear, "How are you today Helen Hen?"
"Tired," she said while trying to keep the chicks out of the bushes.
"Why are you so tired?" asked Bear.
"I'm trying to go to town so I can buy new bonnets for us for Easter. These chicks want to play, so I have worked hard just keeping them going straight down the road. I haven't got time right now ....."
"I Know,..." said Bear, "Maybe tomorrow you can visit with me." And then Helen Hen hurried on down the road.
"I better finish my tea and get back to work, as tomorrow I will be very busy with everyone coming to visit" thought Bear.
That night before going to bed, Bear went up to the attic. "Now where did I put that box last year??? ", Bear mumbled to herself. "THERE IT IS... On the top shelf, I'll just take it downstairs with me and open it." Bear sat down in her rocker by the fireplace to open the box.
"It still looks new," she said to herself. "I'm very glad I won't have to hurry into town like everyone to buy a new bonnet for Easter", as she took out the beautiful bonnet from last year."This will do just fine for the Easter Parade!"
