The Broom People

There is a corner in the yard for the broom people. Grandma made this a special place for the little ones of the family.

I can look back to when I was a little one and got to make a broom person, now I get to help find all the different things to make them. You never know where you will find things to use. One day while I was at the flea market with Grandma she told me we needed some more things for making the broom people.

There was a lady who was selling hats and we started picking through them. We found a big orange floppy beach one, a small blue and white pillbox, a brown and white feather one, a stocking cap, three small white ones and a red one that looked like a helmet. "These will do." said Grandma and paid for them. We put them down in our bag and walked on.

The next stop was where the lady was selling scarfs and ties. Grandma picked out what she wanted and was just ready to pay when she saw some boas. "Well we must have some of these also!" she said. These things also went into the bag, We continued to walk on looking at what others were selling. "OH look at the purses, we could use some of these!" So we picked out several, paid for them and put them into our bag.

Grandma said, "Since we are half way through and the snack bar is at the end of this aisle, why don't we stop for something cool to drink and rest for a few minutes?"

When we finished our drink I told Grandma to sit and rest while I take the things we have bought to the car, then we can start looking again. When I got back Grandma was talking to a nice lady about what we were buying for making broom people.

The next things were sunglasses very old ones, big and small and very colorful. We picked out about 20 or 30 pairs and put them into the bag.

Grandma saw a man with old bamboo rakes and decided we could use them so over she went and told the man we would take all he had. "Why did you buy them, they are not brooms." Grandma said "Yes they are, brooms for lawns, don't you use a rake for the leaves on the lawn?"

We were walking back, towards the front of the place when Grandma spotted a lady selling old pipe. "Yes, yes we must have pipes for the men broom people". Grandma bought all the pipes the lady had . "You know this is the first time I have seen pipes and am glad to get so many" said Grandma.

When we got home, Grandma and I took all the things we had bought at the flea market out to the tool shed and put them on the shelf . It had been a long tiring day, but I had to smile thinking of all the fun the little ones would have making Broom People.
