Butterscotch Oatmeal Cake - from Eve

1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 pkg. butterscotch bits (6 oz.)
1 cup Quick rolled oats
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Combine first three ingredients. Let stand. Beat next 3 ingredients. Add eggs. Blend into first mixture. Sift together the rest of the ingredients. Add. Bake in a greased 9x13" pan for 35 minutes at 350. Spread topping on while cake is hot.

Topping

1/4 cup butter or margarine (softened)
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup pecans (measure after chopped fine)
2 Tbsp. milk

Mix topping ingredients. Spread on hot cake. Broil 3 minutes (about 6 inches from the heat). Great served topped with whipped cream.
