Ham and Cheese Strata - from Pat
12-13 slices white bread
1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
12 oz. Mozzarella cheese (thinly sliced)
8 oz. baked or boiled cooked (coarsely chopped)
1 cup broccoli flowerettes (cooked and finely
chopped)
8 large eggs
3 cups milk
1 Tbsp. Mexican-style salsa
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
Trim and discard crusts from bread slices. Generously butter a 13x9x2" baking dish. Line the bottom of the dish with half the bread slices; top with half the cheese, half the ham and half the broccoli. Add another layer of bread slices; top with remaining cheese, ham and broccoli. Combine eggs, milk, salsa, dry mustard, salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Beat until well blended Pour mixture over the bread and cheese layers. Pierce through all the layers with a fork in five or six places and then press the bread down into the egg mixture to submerge it. Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 50-55 minutes.
