74. Jan Jans BOEKEMA
was born on 11 Nov 1883. He died on 4 Nov 1955. He was "Boekema petten".
The "petten" are lagoons used as a sewer system for human waste. The
"Boekema petten"
(see note on Anneke Boekema-Lubbers) belonged to Jan Jans when Tjeerd van der
Zweep was his farmhand. Van der Zweep was a class mate of my father and his wife
was a sister of my brother in law, John van der Meer. They emigrated to Canada
in the early fifties and worked first for a farmer in Oakville, Nova Scotia,
where my sister, husband and baby joined them in 1954. They latter moved to
Ontaria and bought a farm at Morrisburg. Van der Zweep gave me valuable information
about this Boekema family. No children.
He was married to Hesseltje POSTMA on 2 May 1914 in Leeuwarderadeel. Hesseltje POSTMA died on 18 Jan 1976. She was born 6 Augustus 1887.
