This is a scene that we all know very well
The Lord carrying his cross.
JOHN 19:16-20 -- Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified.
And they took Jesus, and led him away.
(17) And he bearing his cross went forth
into a place called the place of a skull,
which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
(18) Where they crucified him,,br> and two other with him, on either side one,
and Jesus in the midst.
(19) And Pilate wrote a title,
and put it on the cross.br> And the writing was,
JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
(20) this title then read many of the Jews:
for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city:
and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
This is the Lord on the Cross!
For us he dies!
MATTHEW 27:39-50 -- And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads.
(40) And saying
, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
save thyself.
If thou be the Son of God,
come down from the cross.
(41) Likewise also the chief priests mocking him,
with the scribes and elders, said.
(42) he saved others; himself he cannot save.
If he be the King of Israel,
let him now come down from the cross,
and we will believe him.
(43) He trusted in God:
let him deliver him now,
if he will have him:
for he said, I am the Son of God.
(44) The thieves also,
which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
(45) Now from the sixth hour there was darkness
over all the land unto the ninth hour.
(46) And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice,
saying,
E'-li,E'-le, la'-ma sa-bach'-tha-ni?
that is to say,
My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?
(47) some of them that stood there,
when they heard that, said,
This man calleth for E-li'-as.
(48) And straightway one of them ran,
and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar,
and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
(49) The rest said,
Let be, let us see whether E-li'-as will come to save him.
(50) Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice,
yielded up the ghost.
Here is Our Lord!
He has Risen!
And appears before his followers.
MARK 16:9-15 -- Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week,
he appeared first to Mary Mag-da-le'-ne,
out of whom he had cast seven devils.
(10) and she went and told them that had been with him,
as they ourned and wept.
(11) and they,
when they had heard that he was alive,
and had been seen of her, believed not.
(12) After that he appeared in another form unto two of them,
as they walked,
and went into the country.
(13) And they went and told it unto the residue:
neither believed they them.
(14) Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat,
and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart,
because they believed not
them which had seen him after he was risen.
Jesus leaves earth!
To return to the Father!
LUKE 24:46-51 -- And said unto them,
"Thus it is written,
and thus it behoved Christ to suffer,
and rise from the dead the third day:
(47) And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in his name among all nations,
beginning at Jerusalem,
(48) And ye are witnesses of these things.
(49) And, behold,
I send the promise of my Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem,
until ye be endued with power from on high."
(50)And he led them out as far as to Beth'-a-ny,
and he lifted up his hands,
and blessed them.
(51) and it came to pass,
while he blessed them,
he was parted from them,
and carried up into heaven.
The Angels decend from Heaven!
To Meet the Returning Lord!
ACTS 1:9-11 -- And when he had spoken these things,
while they beheld,
he was taken up;
and a cloud received him out of their sight.
(10) And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up,
behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
(11) Which also said,
Ye men of Galilee,
why stand ye gazing up into heaven?
this same Jesus,
which is taken up from you into heaven,
shall so come in like manner
as ye have seen him go into heaven.
The Lord is once again in Heaven!
ACTS 2:32-36 -- This Jesus hath God raised up,
whereof we all are witnesses.
(33) Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted,
and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost,
he hath shed forth this which ye now see and hear.
(34) For David is not ascended into the heavens;
but he saith himself,
THE LORD SAID UNTO MY LORD,
SIT THOU ON MY RIGHT HAND,
(35) UNTIL I MAKE THY FOES THY FOOTSTOOL.
(36) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly,
that God hath made that same Jesus,
whom ye have crucified,
both Lord and Christ.
This angel celebrates the Lord's return
by playing music, for all of Heaven to rejoice in !
JOHN 12:25-26 --He that loveth his life shall lose it;
and he that hateth his life in this world
shall keep it unto life eternal.
(26) If any man serve me,
let him follow me;
and where I am,
there shall also my servant be:
if any man serve me,
him will my Father honour.
