My analysis of the probable family of
Jacob/Jakob Kossmann
1838 -Christening April 30, 1838 Katholisch, Niederhausen, Freiburg, Baden to
Joseph Kossmann and Juliana Groesch
1862 -First found in Brooklyn directories at 88 Montrose Avenue
1870 -Census found 16th Ward.
is age 32- estimating birth at 1838
states he was born in Baden and is a butcher
FAMILY:
Amalie- age 30- baden born (had to died between
1874 & 1880, had child in 1874 and is not on 1880
census)
Elizabeth- age 11- born NY
Julianne- age 7- born NY
Jacob- age 3- born NY
Peter- age 6/12- born NY -Nov 1869 date given on census)
Lawrence- 6/12-born NY -Nov 1869 died prior to 1880)
1874- Found at 100 Montrose as a butcher. (X. Frank is at 222 Montrose also a butcher)
1876- birth cert for male child born Jan 29, 1876 brooklyn #551
father-Jacob Kossmann butcher from Germany
mother- Amalia M_etzger of Germany
family lives at 100 Montrose
not on 1880 Census so he must have died.
1880- Jacob- age 42- born Baden
lives 100 Montrose

Jacob son age 13 was on 1870 census
Peter son age 9
Emily dau age 7
Joseph son age 6
1880- Next door neighbors- Fessler, Xavier (age 76) and Katherine (Age 71). This is interesting because the maiden name of both Peter and X. Franks wife is Fessler.
1880-1891-Jacob must of remarried and then died.
1891- directory lists “Elizabeth widow of Jacob h 196 Moore”
1900- Jacob is gone by now
1900- Based on the directory address and description of Elizabeth

Mamie dau Feb 1884 NY born- ropeworks

If Elizabeth (Lizzie) were married for 12 years they
would of married in about 1888- problem all these children were born before that time. Were they born to Amalie and Jacob?? Why wasn’t Maggie on the 1880 census?

married 22 years- blacksmith
Elizabeth Kossmann from the 1870 census, wife of Adam-
Born May 1860 age 40- 6 kids
Jacob Kossmann br-in-law Feb 1868 age 32- salesman in
household
1900- Peter - born Nov 1869- age 30 born NY
(birthdate matches that given on the 1870 Census for him)
lives 131 Montrose- works lab
Married Feb. 20, 1898 Manhanttan cert# 3024 Mary Grant
parents listed as : Jacob Kossmann and Amalia Schimmel
(maiden name of Amalia does not match that given on the
birth cert of male in 1876)

Jacob- born ~1838 Baden, Germany died around 1890- butcher
Amalie- born ~1840 Baden, Germany died between 1874 & 1880
Elizabeth- born May 1860 NY- married Adam Hoffmann in ~1878
died-unknown
Julianne- born ~1863 NY unknown who she married or when she
died
Jacob- born Feb 1868- salesman- Not in 1920 census-did he move
or die??
Peter- born Nov 1869 - married Mary Grant on Feb. 20, 1898 had
two sons Peter & Charles-died before 1920- birth not listed in Brooklyn Index
Lawrence- Nov 1869 NY- twin of Peter (died prior to 1880)- birth
not listed in Brooklyn Index
possible other children:

one of the girls might have married somebody with the last name
Jung-a Grandson George Jung is listed with Lizzie 1900
