The Swisher Family Homepage
A home for Swisher Genealogists
(And Switzers and Sweitzers and Schweitzers et al!)
1/16/99:
Hello, folks. Regretfully, for the time being, I'm unable to maintain this site.
Lots of changes in my life are keeping me far busier than I can manage. The
site and its current contents will remain active in hopes that what I've gathered
so far will help those of you searching for your Swisher roots. However, I'm
no longer able to keep up with email questions, or additional material sent
to me. I do hope that one day soon I'll be able to be more active here. In the
meantime, I recommend the sites at the bottom of the page as resources for your
search.
UPDATE:
1/17/2002 SWISHER FAMILY REUNION! We are planning a family reunion for descendents of Benjamin Swisher and Elizabeth Smith Whitmore Swisher of Johnson Co. IA. If you are -or think you are descended from these Swishers, please go to the reunion website - Swisher Family Reunion Website for details on lines we are looking for. The reunion will be held in July of 2003 on the 100th anniversary of the founding of Swisher, Iowa which was built on Benjamin's family farm. There are lots of folks we're looking for so get in touch now. We want to make this first reunion a great success! |
~ Let me introduce myself ~
I'm Chris Knudsen, a 5th generation descendent
of Benjamin Swisher (dob 4/2/1817 in Pickaway Co. OH, son of John Swisher and
Catherine Martin Swisher). Benjamin came to Johnson County IA in 1841 and built
a farm there, eventually establishing the town of Swisher, IA. Our family tree
is large and widespread, but many still reside in Iowa. I live in Washington
State. I'm 50 years old and am married to Tim Knudsen, a tugboat captain who
works mainly in Alaska.
We have an 12 year old son, Benjamin.
