In one with clouds, protecting all, the fighters of the sky
High above the canopy, hearts in throats they fly
Heroes all in every war, no matter what they flew
An angel plucked the innocence
That day they died for you.
Their lives in vain?, Well I think not
They saved such men as me
Returning home to raise my boys
The vapor trails that be.
And what of those recognition slight,
ground crews and the like
Years have passed and still they search
For missing angels at night.
With tear filled eyes on wrinkled brows
They sleep a fitful sleep
Waking to the jet blast and the memories they keep.
In honor here today I write, of those that gave for me
For without their Dad, my boys would die
One less this man of infantry
Across the miles I salute the fighters
No greater gift give I
In hopes the courageous continue to serve
Their masterery in the sky.
