Well, as you may know Steve, the absolutely great "owner" in Blues Clues has left and now his "little Brother" Joe is taking care of Blue (the puppy). My kids are taking it OK, but are definitely unsettled by the idea that Steve has left. To make matters worse, Hubby was out of town at the time - so here they are missing daddy and now their favorite TV character is moving on. Finally, the show was on (in 3 parts) from 7 to 8:30 -- so it was past their bedtime.
Thus, as the show ended and Steve got on the bus to go to college - which was actually rather touching, since I'm a HUGE fan of the show- Pumpkin burst out in tears. . . "But I'm going to miss Steve!!!" So he has real tears streaming down his face. Precious loves Joe - just LOVES him already (which is funny, but she must have laughed out loud like 4 times at stuff Joe did) so she isn't sure why Pumpkin is crying. But, never one to let anyone else get attention, she too begins to cry for Steve.
Doh. So, I'm by myself with two tired tearful children trying to explain why Steve is leaving. Part of this is my fault for not really explaining it to them beforehand, I mean, I mentioned it and all, but it wasn't number one thing I talked about all the time - Hell, how was I to do this would hit them that hard! So every morning we now have a war ….As we walk out the door around 7 Blues Clues comes on (as I'm putting their shoes on) and guess what happens:
Pumpkin, "I want to see Blue with Steve"
Precious, "I want to see Blue with Joe"
(fight ensues.)
The truly funny thing is….I could have skipped it all together! IT turns out when we watch the show (7 to 7:30 on the mornings I'm home on this cable show called Noggin) are always re-runs. . . So on my days home they are going to see freaking Steve anyway! Joe isn't on until 10 ~ and Pumpkin is always in school at 10 so he will NEVER see Joe.
But I love Joe. Man, he is the perfect 25 year old to play a 4 year old. Perfect. What does it say about me that I am as interested in Blue's Clues as Precious is? I think it means I'm a parent of a pre-schooler!
