We moved from Izmir, Turkey to Ramstein AB, Germany during September 1998. We decided to drive all the way. Not only did this enable us to have a car immediately upon arriving in Germany, but we were then able to visit many sites along the way.The boat trip through the Greek Islands was beautiful and the drive from Bari through Naples to Rome was wonderful. Rome was one of our favorite places. We arrived there early Sunday morning so the city was virtually deserted. We drove around the city and were able to see the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, and Michelangelo's La Pietá in Saint Peter's Cathedral. All this before noon.
As the crowds began to form at St. Peter's Basilica we left town headed for Florence.
