The following was found in an old Pennsylvania Newspaper: Martha BUTCAVAGE died in June 1967. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael in 1952. They had resided in Shenandoah, PA.

Another old obituary finding: Stanley BUTCAVAGE, Minersville, Sch Co., PA died 3-7-1969. born in Poland. Son of late Stanley BUTCAVAGE & Alexandria DOMBROSKY BUTCAVAGE. Widow Victoria SOBOLESKY, surviving 2 brothers, John & Alex, Minersville.

Found in Pottsville Republican Newspaper 29 Jan 1976 edition: John W. BUTCAVAGE died 28 Jan 1976, late of 720 Lytle Street, Minersville, PA. He died in Crozer Medical Center, Chester, PA as a result of an accident 7 Jan 1976 at the Blue Bell Breaker, Tremont, of which he was the president. He was born in Poland, the son of Stanley & Alexandria VERSHOSKY BUTCAVAGE. He was a member of St. Stanislas Church, Minersville. Surviving are 3 sons, John S., Robert, and Richard and one brother, Alex.

Pottsville Republican Newspaper 7 Oct 1977 edition: Anna BUTCAVAGE (BURKE),81,a native of Gilberton, died Wednesday (Oct 5, 1977)evening at her home, 39 Franklin Street, Union, New Jersey. Miss Butcavage, daughter of the late Andrew and Agatha JOSEPHS BUTCAVAGE, was reared in Gilberton. She was a member of Our Lady of Siluva Church, Maizeville, and Our Daughters of Our Lady of Siluva. Surviving are two brothers, George BURKE, with whom she lived, and Ted Butcavage, Frackville; one sister, Mrs. Agnes HERNANDEZ, Long Island, NY Services will be Saturday from the NICE Funeral Home, Frackville. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Siluva Church. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery, Frackville.

POTTSVILLE REPUBLICAN SATURDAY 9 Jan 1982: Alphonso A. BUTCAVAGE, 227 S. Second Street, Frackville, died 1-7-1982 at the Ashland Hospital...he was born in Frackville, the son of the late Andrew and Agath BUTCAVAGE...he was a member of St. John's Polish National Church and the United Mine Workers Union. He is survived by his wife, Anna FIELDS, two sons, Theodore, of Lancaster and Joseph, of Wernersville and a brother George BUTCAVAGE of Union, New Jersey and a sister Agnes, of Long Island, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Internment at Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown.

Alex Butkus, 63, Taken by Death. Alexander Butkus, 63, of 701 Halmholz Avenue, died at 7:45 PM yesterday at St. Therese Hospital. Born in Lithuania in 1872, he had lived in Waukegan 28 years. Surviving are 4 sons, Anthony, John, Joseph and Stanley, all of Waukegan, and one daughter, Mrs. Stanley August, also of Waukegan, a granddaughter, Barbara, 2 sisters, Casimiera and Pauline of Lithuania and 2 brothers, Michael of Waukegan, and Joseph of West Allis, WI. The body will lie in state at his home after 12 noon tomorrow, and funeral services will be held from the home at 8:30 AM Monday to St. Bartholomew's Church at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in Ascension cemetery.

Michael (Mike) Butkus, 52, veteran lineman for the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois, died unexpectedly in his home, 819 Prescott, at 4:30 AM yesterday. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Butkus, who was employed on the night shift of the line department, had worked up to 11 PM, his usual quitting time, Saturday, and was suddenly taken ill after his arrival home. He was born in Riga, Latvia, and had been a resident of Waukegan most of his life. He attended St. Bartholomew's School and had been employed by the utility concern for the past 30 years. Mr. Butkus was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church and Society. A first cousin of Waukegan Patrolman Stanley Butkus, he is survived by his widow, Helen, two children, Elizabeth & Daniel; his mother, Mrs. Ursula Butkus; two sisters, Miss Stella Butkus and Mrs. Norbert Freidman; and four brothers, Anthony, George, Alexander & Walter. All are of Waukegan. Services will be held from the funeral home at Sheridan Rd & 10th Street to St. Bartholomew's Church at 9 AM Wednesday with burial in Ascension Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 PM today until the hour of the services. Members of St. Bartholomew, Joseph & Anthony Society will meet at the funeral home at 7 PM tomorrow to recite the rosary for Mr. Butkus.

Mr. Joseph Butkus, 85, of Gurnee IL, passed away 22 Jan 1994 at St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. He was born 2 Jan 1909 in Waukegan. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church in Waukegan and of the St. Joseph & St. Anthony Societies. He worked at the North Chicago Foundry for 30 years. He is survived by his brother, John Butkus, of Waukegan; sister-in-law, Stella Butkus, of Waukegan; nieces & nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Butkus, his parents, Alex & Rose Butkus, 2 brothers, Stanley & Anthony Butkus and a sister Alice August. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday 25 Jan 1994 at Marsh Funeral Home, 1521 Washington St. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery. Our beloved mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother Genevieve M. Butkus, 89, of Hawthorn Woods, passed away at home on 22 Sep 1995. She will be greatly missed. She was born in Waukegan 8 Sep 1906 and was a lifelong Waukegan area resident. Genevieve Butkus was a former member of St. Bartholomew Church. Survivors include 2 sons, Albert Butkus or Waukegan and Charles (Florence)Butkus of Hawthorn Woods; 6 grandchildren, Deborah (Steve)Mayer of Bartlett, Kenneth (Mary Beth)Butkus of Newton Square PA, Michael (Elizabeth)Butkus of Orland,FL, Linda Butkus of Waukegan, Edward & Frank Butkus of Winthrop Harbor; 2 great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Mayer of Bartlett. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony J. Butkus to whom she was married 65 years, also her sister Helen Butkus. Stella Bernice Butkus, age 82, of Waukegan passed away 25 June 1997 at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born 8 May 1915 in Waukegan. She was a lifetime member of St. Bartholomew (Holy Family) Church. She was also an avid gardner and a gourmet cook. She is survived by 1 daughter, Theresa Marie Butkus, Waukegan, 1 son, Dennis Butkus, Gurnee, and 1 sister, Lucille (Fritz) Velkovrh, Waukegan. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 1988 and 2 sisters, Helen Bena and Annie Bolis. Funeral services will be at 10 AM 27 June 1997 at St. Bartholomew Church. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Stella F. Butkus, age 94, of Gurnee IL died Sunday 4 Jan 1998 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion IL. She was born 23 Apr 1903 in Forest City PA and lived in Waukegan for many years. She retired from Great Lakes Kaundry. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, now Holy Family West Church, and was a former member of St. Anne's Society and the St. Theresa Altar & Rosary Society. She is survived by a brother Alex (Pudencia) of Waukegan, and a sister Julia (Norbert) Friedman of Gurnee; also many nieces and nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael & Ursula Butkus, and by 6 brothers, Michael, Anthony, John, Joseph, George & Walter Butkus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday 7 Jan 1998 at Holy Family West Church, with interment to follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville IL. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday at the Salata Funeral Home, 729 14th Street, North Chicago IL.

Philip Butkus, 45, of Waukesha WI, formerly of Waukegan passed away 14 Jan 1998. He was born 26 Nov 1952 in Illinois, the son of Sophie and the late George Butkus. Brother of Janet(Ray)Thornborough, Georgia (E.J.)Ford, Diane(Richard)Curtis, & Leonard(Mary Lee)Butkus. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. ZANIS BUTKUS
Palmer resident Zanis Butkus, 92, died May 15, 1999, at his home.
No service is planned.
Mr. Butkus was born in Latvia on July 29, 1906 to Fricis and Anna Butkus. He attended schools in Latvia. He was a member of the Latvian Legion from 1939-1946 and was a highly decorated veteran. He was an expert marksman with NRA National in 1966 and 1967.
He came to Alaska in 1985 to watch his grandchildren grow. He was a member of St. John's Latvian Lutheran Church in Wisconsin.
According to his family, "John always cared for his family first. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and especially thankful to his granddaughter, Amanda, for the care she provided when he became disabled. He was a very humble man who never let on about his barvery and accomplishments during World War II, but has left a legacy his family will always be proud to carry."
Mr. Butkus is survived by his wife, Velta, of Palmer; daughters, Ulla of Palmer; Inta of Los Osos, California; and Marga and Mirdza of Latvia; granddaughters, Tamara and Amanda; grandsons, Kristaps and Jared, all of Palmer; great-grandson, Jeremiah Combs of Palmer; other family members in Florida and Latvia; and special friend, Helen Stice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Officer James Rowland Memorial Fund, c/o any branch of the National Bank of Alaska. Arrangements for the family were made by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary Chapel.
(Note: James Rowland was a Palmer police officer who died in the line of duty a few days before Mr. Butkus died. The James Rowland fund is intended for the benefit of Officer Rowland's wife and young child.)
