THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
1763 - 1784
EBENEZER STILL 1766 - 1848
 He enlisted in the "Army of the Revolution" as a private in March,1781, in the
10th Mass. Reg. commanded by Colonel Tupper and in 1782 consolidated into
the 6th Mass. Later they were "shifted" into the 2nd Reg. and in 1784
received an honorable discharge. As he was born in 1766 he could have
been scarcely 15 years of age. He was from Westfield, Mass.

 About 1850 he went overland to Calif. with his brother-in-law to join the gold rush.  When the Civil War began, he came east by ship around S.
America and landed in Mass.  Here he joined the 2nd Mass. Cavalry, Co. L.
He lost an eye in the war.  He returned to Mich. in May, 1864

Entered the Civil war from Dubuque, IA, 4 Nov. 1862, with the 38th Iowa Inf. co. "C" Died at Vickburg, Warren Co., MS 17 Jul. 1863

GEORGE EBENEZER STILL 1833 - 1920
enlisted for service in the army Aug. 12, 1862 in Volga City , Clayton co. Iowa. He served in 21st Iowa inf. Co."D" and received his discharge in April
13,1863 in Fort Rolla, Mo. Serial # 379,236. As a result of a Rifle Ball blowing off two fingers of his left hand

Archie received a bad back injury during World War
1 from which he never fully recovered. It left him
badly crippled.

HARRY F. KURTZ Jr. 1921 - ?
He joined the Air force in 1942. After 9 mos.
training in San Antonio, Texas they were sent to Missouri and then for
advanced training in Wichita, Kansas. In 1943 they were at Houston,
Texas for transport flights. The high-light of that training was the
dance he had with Ava Gardner at the recreational center. He was ATC
in Medical and assisted in the malaria survey in Athens, Greece during
the Athens' revolution. He served in the African Campaign and it was
here the Foreign Legion taught him to drink beer, in Merach, French
Africa. His work was in the dispensary after helping bring the wounded
into the air-field. In all these main battles he received only a sprained
ankle and minor injuries. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946,
Serial #16160119.

ROBERT C. MURPHY 1925 - ?
He joined the Army 5-19-1943. Sent to Hougton College, U.P. where he studied Map Reading for the army, also Engineering in general. then to fort Balvoir,Va. to an Engineering school. He served in the European theater. was in the Battle of the Bugle, Rhine river Battle and other important engagements. Fortunately he received no serious injury. He received his honorable discharge 5-1-1946. His serial# 16089062.

NORMAN D. ROSEN 1927 - ?
He enlisted in the Navy in 1944. Serial # 311C-28-ll.

RICHARD A. ROSEN 1923 - ?
 he enlisted in Marine Corp. Feb. 2, 1942. Boot Camp, Quantico, Va.,
then shipped to Samoa for intensive training as member of Col. Edson's
FIRST RAIDER BATTALION. Aug. 7, 1942, battle on Tulagi; Sep. 42, Guadaicanal, wounded in battle of Blood Ridge--received Purple Heart, unit citation. Hospitalized New Hebrides, then New Caldonia. Over Christmas
1942, to New Zealand for rest and recuperation. Regrouped at
New Caldonia. Aug. 1943, Battle on New Georgia. Nov. 1943 Furlough
home, then to Camp LeJuene, N. Carolina, retraining as M.P.  arrived at Guadalcanal, transferred to Headquarters Division, 29th Marines,
incorporated into 6th Marine Division under General Shepard.
Very intensive training for assault on Okifiawa Easter Sunday, 1945.
Unit Citation for battle of Sugar Loaf Hill ; Presidential Citation to
Division. June 1945 to Guam for regrouping. Oct. 1945 to Tsingtao,
China. M.P. Investigative Unit. Enjoyed work in China:
Discharged Feb. 2, 1946, Great Lakes, Illinois--Serial #355-437.

 He served in the Navy during World War II enlisting in 1944, receiving an
honorable discharge 7 Jan. l946.
 

LUTHER GRADY STEWART 1924 - 1988
Luther  joined the United States Marines on November 1941. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 he was in Boot Camp at Parris Island SC.. Upon finishing Boot Camp in 1942 he was sent to the South Pacific where we served until 1945. His service in the Pacific Included the Invasion of Guadal canal, LsLanda, Ellice Island, Marshall Island and the Capture and defense of Guam. He received a Honorable Discharge on 24 November 1945 at the Naval Air Station, Jackson Florida
He joined the Army in July 1949 with the rank of Corporal at Fort McPherson GA. Where we was station until 1957. In 1957 Luther was transferred to USAREUR Hq, in Heidelburg Germany In 1960 Luther  returned to Fort McPherson GA where he worked at the Graphics Branch of the Engineers.    Luther retired from the Army in July 1965. After a two week vacation Luther returned to the Graphic Branch of Engineers at Fort McPherson GA, as a Civilian Illustrator.

RUSSELL C. TOWNSEND 1922 - ?
 he became a member of the Armed Forces in W.W.II
His training began at Ft. Sills,Okla.in Feb.2,1942 with Serial,
Number 36169421. Sent to Camp Bowie,Texas in 2nd Observation-Flash
& Sound Battalion.There he was transferred to the 95th Div. of Artillary
and sent to Camp Polk, La. for further training. After final training
in the.desert of California,they went to the East Coast for transport-
ation overseas.They disembarked at Black Pool, England June 1944.
Then across England and the English Channell to Omaha Beach, France.
The heavy battles of St. Lo, Le Mans etc, collapsed, the Maginot Line.
They chased the Germans through and out of Paris.then again heavy
fighting in Saarlauten where they spent two months obliterating the
German Pillboxes in that area. Heavy fighting in Leige and finally
the Battle of the Bulge which finished the German resistance.
Altho the boy's were under heavy fire much of the time,many returned
home safely. They sailed from Le Havre, France on the luxury liner
Maripossa,which was also the ship on which they had come over.This
ship had been requisitioned as a troop transport during the war.
Russell received his honorable discharge at Camp Chaffee, Ark.
October 1945.

GEORGE G. TOWNSEND 1913 - 1976
Served in the army entering service at Camp Grant, Ill. in
April 27,1943. He received an honorable discharge January 10, 1946 at
Fort Sheridan, Ill. He received, the Victory Medal, served in Europe,
Middle East and Africa. He received four over-seas bars, a marksman
medal also one for good conduct. His serial number -36-462-555.
His rating was Sgt.-DET J HQ SQ Radar SC USSTAF

GILBERT F. TOWNSEND 1922 - ?
 He entered the Army in Dec.12 1942, and took his Basic training at Fort Lewis, WA. While there he was hospitalized and had a hernia operation. When recovered, he was sent to the Mojave Desert near Needles, CA. for further training. They were transferred to a debarkation point at Camp Stevens, CA. They sailed to the Hawaiian Islands and spent eighteen months on the Island of Kauai. From there to New Guinea in the Pacific where he was assigned to the contingent of infantry guarding the coast. He also served in the Philippines where they were under heavy fire while taking Baguio Mountain. Casualities were heavy before reaching the top and then holding it. Eventually they were sent to Japan and finally they returned to the States with impaired health as were so many of the boys who served in the fever laden jungles of the Pacific Theater of War.
Gilbert received his Honorable Discharge at Camp McCoy,WI. Jan. 14, 1946. His serial # 36415322.

RODNEY L. HARMON 1945 - ?
 Joined the Air Force and received basic training in
San Antonio, Texas. In Amarilla, Texas he was drilled in Jet
Aircraft Mechanics. After serving in California two years, he
was sent to Okinawa until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant
in August 1968. Service # 16806480.

WILLIAM G. HEATH 1942 - ?
 He entered the army in 1961, took his basic training at Fort Knox,
Military Police School at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and stationed at
Fort Sam Houston had Military Police Sentry Dog Handlers School at
Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The remainder
of the two years was spent at a Nike Hercules Missile Base
in Chicago. Here he became a Corporal and Senior Dog Handler,

TIMOTHY W. RAPES 1941 - LIVING
Served in U.S.M.C.

ARNOLD W. ROSEN II 1928 - ?
Join the Air Force in the fall of 1946. He helped refuel ships in the air
was with maintainance on Guam and Okinawaw and served some time
in Japan He had Honorable discharge 9-2-1949 with the rating of Sgt.
in the 19 th Air Supply Sqd. His serial number A A 6194265.
 
 

CHARLES E. ROSEN 1930 - 1962
 Inducted into the army July 14, 1954. He served in Germany and Korea and planned to make the army his career. However the illness and death of his father in the spring of 1961 made it necessary for him to be home. He received an honorable discharge from Ft. Benning, GA his serial # RA27042533. His rank was Sp5,Co."C",19th Inf.(R),6th Armored Divison.

JOHN M. SHUVER 1946 - ?
Inducted into the Army Nov. 6. 1968 Had basic training at
Ft. Knox, KY. A.I.T. at Fort Ord, Cal.; N.C.O. School at Ft. Benning,
Ga., then stationed at Ft, Carson, Colorado until discharged in August,
1970. He had obtained the rank of staff Sgt. (E6)

IVOR C. STILL 1902 - 1978
Claire served 2 or 3 terms in the regular Army  in Hawaii, China And on the Mexican Border.

RICHARD L. WILKINS 1927 - ?
Entered the Army Feb 1946. He was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas then sent to Fort Dix, NJ to be sent to Germany. Instead they were returned to Fort Bliss, Texas where he received his honorable discharge as Pvt. 1st Class in 1949
